    Hello,

So I've just moved to Greystones (love the place). Anyway I'm fairly clueless about a lot of things but this is really important. I have a date with a girl from Bray coming up and if all goes according to plan I should be able to get her safely home on the last DART. But there's a chance that she might miss that, so in the event of an emergency how much would you say a taxi to Bray would cost? I normally like to plan everything way ahead of time but this is a really special girl so I want things to go like clockwork and be prepared for any eventuality. An estimate would do.

    Thanks.

Could easily be €20 by the time you add on all the extras (call out, late night charge etc).

Buying her breakfast would be cheaper ;)

You never know your luck, you might be dropping her home in the morning mate :D

It'd be at least €20, I'd say. It cost me €20 last year to get a taxi from outside Bray station to Charlesland, no call out as he was on the rank and it wasn't particularly late just long wait to next Dart which I didn't want to do as was on my own and coming from airport (Pre-Aircoach Days :)). If I'd known how much it was going to cost, I'd have gone for a coffee and waited!

Thanks for the replies so far guys. It helps to be prepared. €20 or thereabouts isn't too bad in an emergency I suppose. There'll be none of this taking her home in the morning lark, we're both devout Christians, that ain't how we do things. :)

Dont forget about the 84 and the 184 they could be later... as far as I remember the last bus is after the last dart, so that could be an option for you. Might be worth checking out the timetables for the day you're going on the date.

Good luck! Sounds like you really like her, very sweet! :D

Ah young love, I remember the days :)

Just to say as well that it can be a problem actually GETTING a taxi from Greystones, I've had to ring umpteen different numbers before finding one available even during the day, a lot of them just seem to have one car so if they're on another call you're out of luck. So, if you are taking the taxi route allow plenty of time to get one and start phoning in advance while comfortably ensconced somewhere (i.e. don't end up standing on the street phoning around for an hour, I don't think that would impress her ;):))

Maybe someone on here knows which are the more reliable taxis in the area(haven't come across any myself yet!)?

Actually, €20 could be on the low side now I think about it. I think it's about an extra €20 from Bray to Greystones when we are sharing a taxi home from Dublin, so that doesn't include the add-on fares.

Apologies for the flippant comment Puck.

I think there may be a couple of numbers in the thread, but I remember many nights where there was just no taxi to be had.

No need to apologise to me Eoin, you haven't offended my delicate sensibilities or anything. :)

Thanks for all the help so far. I'm prepared to pay more than €20 if it gets her home safe and means she has a good night. I will look for a reliable taxi company but this will all still be just in case of emergency. Still I may end up taking the DART with her and walking her home just to get her there safe and then have to take a taxi back myself. So the information could be handy in more ways than one.

May I say you're all being very neighbourly. Thanks very much! :)

theres an 84 from Greystones to Bray at 0040 - helluva lot cheaper than a cab.

Depends on what day your date is on. Friday/Saturday night you could expect to pay €20+ especially if you hadn't prebooked it, but any other day and it could just cost you between €10-€20.

Well a devout Christian would surely be generous enough to lend her his bed for the night and escort her home on the dart the next morning rather than entrusting her to a stranger? ;)

No, Eoin's sense of humour seems to be functioning fine. I was serious. :)

I know this is resurrecting an old thread but every fairy tale should have a happy ending: fantastic date! No need for a taxi either. :D
Thanks for all your help guys.

Hello from almost 20 years later! I found this old thread of mine while looking for something else. How's this for an update: We're got married in 2011 and have three children now. Still love Jesus. Still "a really special girl."
