There was outrage yesterday when Fina Gael put their foot in it and came up with a proposition to give all unemployed foreign nationals a lump sum of six months free dole if they go home. Apparently there are 40'000 foreign ntionals on the dole in Ireland. We can expect all kinds of hostilities as the unimployment figures rise

A Fine Gael proposal to give unemployed foreign nationals six months' free dole in exchange for going home was yesterday strongly criticised by Fianna Fail and FAS.

Seems it's six months. I take it these are mostly British, Polish and other EU citizens? Don't think non-EU can draw dole here, not sure though.

I think it's a great idea.
Its not as if they make you take it then kick you out.
Its an option, as is staying and getting a job.

Jesus christ just read about this today. What a load of crock so we can pay taxes to give foreigners €4747.20 (thats done in me head so could be wrong 197.80 x 24) to leave. If this goes through I'll actually have to give up my beliefs about protesting.

Seriously what a load of bollox. First were told we should keep an open system unlike the UK because we need these immigrant workers and yet now there suggesting we pay them to leave.

Simple really bring in a law that they're free to work here but not to recieve jobseekers allowance!

Also does this apply to the illegal Nigerians the government are allowing to sign?

i was speaking to a foriegn national this morning...he informed me he was being let go from his job because his boss said he was too slow...i asked him what will he do now as there is not much work...his response...draw the dole..

i put down a 14 hour day yesterday...why so my tax can pay for him to sit on his ass..

Maybe the long term plan is to rid the country of unemployed foreign migrants thus freeing up housing and accommodation for this proposed government five year end the homelessness plan.

Your tax pays for a lot more than paying people the dole.
What else is he supposed to do when he loses his job but claim benefits. While on the dole he'll have to prove that he is looking for work.

I have a one-year homelessness plan that cuts out a lot of this shilly-shallying. I propose to give six months' dole to each homeless person to get them to go and be homeless in a warmer country with cheaper booze.

Have you not availed of the "It's my tax money" scheme?

Basically, you can dictate exactly what your hard earned tax dollars pay for. Don't like immigrants? No problem! They'll get none of your tax if you fill out the appropriate form. Yes, you too can know better how to allocate the budget than the entire Department of Finance!

It also includes the ability to contribute to the salary of an actual Garda. That way, when questioned by the law you can produce your certificate and say "I pay your wages you know" with impunity and this enjoy legal immunity from prosecution.

It's an headline seeking idea from FG that will never be implemented. A waste of time and reminds me of some of Noonans initiatives back in 2002.
