Oscail - BA

Okay, I've had this road to Damascus type experience today and have registered with Oscail for their BA.

I had been considering doing an MBA, but as I'm already an ACCA that would just be guilding the lily reallly. Although this degree would be a big change for me the humanities have always appealed so why not!

Looking forward to it now (assuming I'm accepted, but shouldn't think there will be a problem there) - and you never know, I might one day stop being a financial controller and take up work as... okay, now I remember why I'm doing this course - for the experience of doing the course. Am I insane? :D

Well only you (or a shrink) can say if you're insane :P. However, i would search ths forum for Oscail and read the various threads which outline the cons, and some pros, of doing courses with them.

    Thanks - I've seen a few already.

One not so complimentary, but that was an "IT" course which seemed to be miles out of date, which shouldn't be as big a deal with a humanities course.

I would expect the BA course to be similarily well run to a BA course by DCU proper - Expecting too much?

I've registered for Psychology 2 with Oscail, one year after completing Psychology 1. I actually find them 'ok' for an Arts programme ...any Arts Degree is really only a foundation for further study or experience of some sort.

What is clear though is that their numbers are declining considerably and the number of Subjects and modules offered is shrinking in line with this lower demand. For example this is the last year that all of the 6 Psychology modules are running. Next year it will only be 1,2, and 5. The following year 3,4 and 6.

It's clearly inferior to the O.U., in terms of recognition by Psychological bodies anyway but is a reasonable and not too expensive addition to my existing B.A. I want some Psychology as it wasn't available in Mary Immaculate College during my time...although it has since been added.

Next year I might transfer to the O.U.
