Eddie has bemoaned the introduction of the ELV's, saying they're about creating spurious 'entertainment' for non-aficionados of the sport likening the game to Cricket's 20/20...i.e it looks like cricket, feels like cricket but well, just isn't cricket...(I'll say! More like a saccharine sweet rounders-lite for dummies, but thats an argument for another day).

He then goes on to say, no doubt in an ironic vein, that the ELV's should be hived off into a new version of the game, with 12 men on the field..rugby's 20/12.....interestingly, Eddie doesn't rate sevens as a spectacle either....Mad as a balloon but can see where he's coming from....

He's using the ELVs currently in place in the SH comps as an example. Considering that the free-kick sanction change isn't being implemented in the set of 13 here and then in the SH competitions from next year's season onwards, it would be quite hard to criticise the 13 ELVs effects when they're only in place a little over three weeks.
