Jade Goody has withdrawn from the Indian version of Big Brother after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, it has been reported.

Goody was told the news by her UK consultant last night during a phone call in the diary room. She ran back into the house in tears saying: "I have cancer".

The 27-year-old mother of two was taking part in the show to improve her image after accusations of racism during the UK's Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.

Goody has withdrawn from the show and is flying back to the UK to be treated.

The Sun reports that the diagnosis follows three previous cancer scares. Goody has also collapsed on a number of occasions.

A spokesman confirmed to the newspaper that tests earlier this month had shown the star had cancer of the womb. "This is a massive blow for her," he said.

Goody, who found fame through Big Brother in 2002, was reportedly being paid £100,000 for her appearance in the Indian version of Big Brother, called Bigg Boss.

    Big Boss? SNAKE SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!

On topic. Aw bless. Hope she does recover to think up of even more disgraceful excuses for not being on a show where she'll be in the line of fire....again.

I dunno, I don't mean to be callous, but why did she go on the show if she was having tests done? I'm sure it made great tv watching someone told they've cancer on BB.

I'm having a hard time feeling sympathy for her. I've watched people fight cancer and loose without cashing in on it. I wouldn' wish it on anyone.

I'm going to be really horrible here and wonder if she really does have cancer? There's nothing this woman will stop at in order to maintain her fame. It would also make her more sympathetic. Her reputation's been muck since the Celeb Big Brother racism row. Such a shame - I was hoping she'd disappear off somewhere and never come back.

Whilst i don't specifically wish the woman ill health.... she wouldn't be the first celebrity to try to use Cancer as a springboard to a 'comeback' of some sort.

Really? who would do such a thing.

I can't really believe that she would do this, and I hope to she recovers, she has 2 young children.

Sadly, she also would not be the first young woman to develop cervical cancer after a number of 'all clears'.
The sooner the vaccine is rolled out the better.

Was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't wish cancer on anybody but the timing of this case just seems contrived.

Sad to hear of anyone having to suffer cancer but the delivery of her news was typically inappropriate

    Complete PR stunt.
She is banking on the cancer effect ie. nobody would dare to doubt a cancer sufferer.

I also hope it's not a PR stunt, and as I said elsewhere, while I despise the woman and all she represents I wish her well in recovery.

REALLY hope thats not a PR stunt! Cervical cancer is on the increase, it sometimes has no symptoms, so it goes undetected for a duration of time. Scarey thought. If you go for smear tests, are you tested for it??

That's what the smear test primarily looks for, abnormal cells or lesions on the cervix that indicate the beginnings of cervical cancer. So, to answer the question succinctly, yes. :) Most cervical cancer is caused by the presence of a virus, there is now a vaccine for that virus that most girls 11+ will receive. This should reduce the number of cervical cancers by about 90% (conservative estimate) but smear tests will still be necessary.

Is Gardasil not available in the UK/Ireland yet?

UK and Ireland have chosen to go with the GSK bivalent vaccine rather than the Merck quadrivalent vaccine...cost-benefit analysis apparently says it's cheaper in the long-run to give the less-protective vaccine!

Besides Gardasil or the GSK vaccine would not have prevented Jade Goody getting cervical cancer, she's likely had the virus for years now and her CIN lesions would have been at level 2 and 3 while these vaccines were only entering into Phase II/III trials.

Yeah, the vaccine is really expensive. I don't have health insurance but my doctor hooked me up with a program through Merck where I got the vaccine for free, and only had to pay for the shot itself, about $20 each for three. Thank God or I wouldn't have gotten it. I'm 24 though, and they say past 26 or so it's pointless, so I don't know how much good it will actually do.

Doesn't look like she's faking it to me! Seriously, what kind of person would do that? I know she's a media whore etc but she would hardly stoop that low? I hope she gets through it.

Although i've already been rather catty in this thread, I also doubt she's faking it.

Why are some people hoping isn't not a PR stunt? I hope it IS a PR stunt. I wouldn't wish that disease on anybody.

And if it is, I'd just think 'well that figures'.

If it were true would they really tell her on BB??? Would they not just take her out of it altogether and tell her in person?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,441 ✭✭✭Firetrap

Well, she and the people behind BB are as bad as each other. It makes for great television to tell someone they've got cancer live on air

I certainly would have thought so.

I see her exclusive interview with the Sun now as expected. She is getting well paid for all this.
Expect her head to get shaved in a few weeks to silence any doubters.
