Getting married?

Would it be possible for me and my gf (or fiance now, I guess!) to go to a registry office tomorrow and get married?!
Not saying I'm going to do that, but is there a procedure you have to go through before getting married here - she was on about some marriage course and some other stuff we have to do.

We are planning on having the official wedding abroad - just want to make sure it's legal/recognised here.

No, you don't have to do a marriage course to have a wedding in a registry office, but you do have to give a certain amount of official notice. Can't remember how much, but something along the lines of 6 weeks at a guess.
