Writing 2 books. To Learn English and French- Query about music rights

    Ok,i have an idea where i want to write 2 books based around traditional music lyrics. I use music as a way to learn language, to pick up expressions towards achieving fluency. This is how i learnt french. I am looking for french and english songs (traditional) which are not copyright because they are old or unknown. I don't want to start working on this project without knowing that it is achievable. i've googled and found nothing. Is there a such thing as copyright free music?
