    1) all the people are on xt3.com (its horrible they are sooo catholicy happy types *shudder*)

    2) you dont need to follow those rules, anyway they have confession for a reason.

    3) most catholics dont know all the rules anyway. I know more than most which is why I've stopped being a catholic.

    4) for a church that is 'catholic', that is to say 'universal' its not, and its also very divided in traditonal elements.

meh, going abroad t see the pope deosn't make someone a good Catholic, these people have their vices just like the rest of us, even the priests don't play to the rules. Regular Catholics, and even the more devou than usual, don't all feel the need to make it known to everyone.
I'm sure the few, the very few, who are saintly wouldn't hang with me or most of you lot anyway.

Oh, thanks for my Tuesday sermon. I found the message very inspiring, so now I just might follow those profound words and seek a cool one.

You're more than welcome, just remember not to do overdo it or else you'll be cast into a pit of fire for all eternity.

I don't know a single person (that isn't a relative) who even goes to mass let alone all that other crazy shit!

My nephew is on his way home from the pope in Australia thingy. He is 18, just finished the leaving. Not a bible basher in any way, really good kid, probably more clean cut than most his age. He has been 'allowed' by his parents to have a drink for a while, doesn't really seem to bother. Oh and his parents wouldn't be religious at all.
They didn't actually have to pay a huge amount, there was tons of fundraising etc.
Got a text from him during the week, saying he was having the time of his life. Not sure they have to be the of the odd criteria in the op's post.

It's been said before I know, but all these people who don't bother attending mass will be, in years to come, breaking into a cold sweat at the thought of the church not being available the morning they want to get married.

I know quite a few young believers who never miss mass. I'm a believer in God but haven't been to church in about a year now, I do pray and still read the bible whenever I can, but wouldn't consider myself a church goer due to the nature of my work and social life.

Theres a good few people who consider themselves religious but the term means different things to different people.

I have a degree in theology, did it coz i wanted to. I have had sex and im not married, never done drugs, curse a fair bit, go to mass the odd time.

Being Christian is a continued experience and having a shag does nt make you not Chrisian etc, sort of.

I have my reasons for doing what I do, but I know the various arguements involved in the view of the Catholic Church. But most dont, not having a go at anyone its just the way it is.

    Im 23 by the way.

No, of course not. But it makes you hypocritical if you consider yourself a devout catholic.

I knew a number of people who went to World Youth Day and they weren't perfect Catholics by any means, not even that religious. Totally ordinary teenagers.
In fact someone I know nearly lost their virginity there. So don't worry it's mostly just a holiday!

In fairness, most of the Catholic doctrine has been developed by what transpired to be the most hypocritical people of all. Maybe thats why alot of younger people are following their instincts, and actually leading a more 'christian' or 'catholic' life, but not adhering to old norms.
They may actually have something to offer in terms of a church than can appeal to younger people and have some hope of surviving.
The most 'Catholic' people I have ever met, and thats quite a few, do the mass/be seen to be catholic thing. But on the other hand are judgemental, have no compassion, and would not inspire anything spiritual. Time for a new order methinks.
    Rant over.

The least spiritual pursuit in life is religion.

I don't know a single person like that.

Of course, I do know a million people who swear blindly that they're great Catholics but they hardly turn up to Church and they do commit all those moral sins that go against the spirit of Catholicism.

Being Irish and a Celtic fan is enough for them.

You know a million people? Fair play! :D

I know a few people who go to mass every Sunday without miss and not "to-be-seen". But none of that other stuff.

Don't know anyone my age who goes to Mass.

Most of my mates are big into the old Dawkins, Hitchens, too cool for school student intellectual image at the moment in fact. I'd say I believe in God, but I'd be more the act unto others as you would have them act unto you type. I.e. I try and be nice, and other than that live and let live...

    Works for me. :pac:

Well unless you stick strictly to the doctrine are ye not just as doomed as all us other heathens? What's the point in being involved half-heartedly? Ah jaysis I shouldn't start thinking about this stuff...

Its best not to. Just accept that there is no god and get on with enjoying the rest of your life...

I have some friends who are definitely Catholics and believe lots etc. When we were skiing in Italy on a school trip they got the first bus back to the hotel (it was just people going to mass allowed on that bus) but ratted me out when I tried to get one "no she doesn't go to mass!"

Being a bitch isn't very Catholic now is it? >:(

I reckon more than a handful of people went on that weekend for the sake of it rather than for religious reasons.

I don't think I've ever met a devout Catholic my own age, Born-again Christians, Muslims, yes, Catholics? Nah.

I am Christian (Anglican), and I have Christian friends of different sorts Pentecostals, Catholics etc.

I disagree dudess, I would be hypocritical if i had a go at others for doing it. I dont. I have certain views as a Catholic about sex and stuff that are informed by my Catholic faith.

Im not getting into on here if you want to discuss it PM me.

You could take the view, theres only one Christian and he died on the cross! Everyone falls short of the ideals.

I always end up making friends with religious people, it's really strange! Four of my best friends since I was a child have been scarily religious. It's annoying when they pounce on you for casually referring to humans as being animals and various other things, but it is fun for the odd debate (which they always seem to take really seriously)

You can really see the true power of brainwashing when you find a person of above average intelligence who is also religious.

Couple of summers ago I started work with about 10 people among whom was (we discovered) a born again Christian. We were all about 18 years old...

Anywho, she didn't proselytize or preach or anything, but her MySpace/Bebo pages were plastered with god-related stuff.

She didn't drink for the first month or so, and was fairly... Christian. After that though, she started drinking, slutting around, going to clubs, got rid of the god stuff from her pages, and generally started becoming more fun :D So yeah, she was corrupted.

Other than that I don't know any proper religious young people. However I have in recent years discovered that a few of my mates believe in the 'greater being', 'creator' thing, whilst not necessarily subscribing to any particular religion. Some of them were a surprise to be honest! Was only having this (drunken) conversation with a couple of mates 2 weeks ago... it got very heated!

I've seen it go the other way, from death metal and gimp masks to the beauty of god and the likes. Actually found the religious social pages more intimidating as you know metal is just music and not anything genuinely sinister.

Eh, a few friends of mine are gone to World Youth Day and they went to the one three years ago, and it's a holiday really. Most of them would have some religious beliefs centred on Christianity (they completely disagree with the majority of catholic doctrine though...) but they're really going because the price is good, good way to meet people, get to see sights you normally wouldn't get to see and other such reasons.
