One quote from Falcao in that link doesn't actually inspire confidence:

"I can guarantee my financial future. The Premier League is sensational."

Couldn't he at least pretend that it isn't all about money?

i know you would have to wonder how commited a palyer is after a comment like that.

I think we might be being a bit hard on him here.

If this works out for him, then he and his whole family are sorted for life.

I know we all love the beautiful game but for South Americans and Africans, Europe transfers spell big money and an end to poverty.

You could look at it the other way. He's saying that 'if I arrive my financial future will be sorted', therefore he's less likely to pull an Adebayor as he'll be satisfied.

Not that I believe that but you know what I mean.

When kids show promise in Ireland we think about the national team. When kids show promise in a country where the average wage is like $6,700 per anum and the average premiership wage is 10K per week, it's a different story.

of course, he may turn out to be a greedy git but it was just one comment.

He's not less or more committed than any other player, he's just not bull****ting you.

indeed. for all we know he may have been directly asked something along those lines or coerced by the journo.

reading up on this guy I found on wikipedia that he has 38 goals in 58 appearences for River. Don't know how reliable that is, but if true it's some scoring record.

I'd say it's fairly reliable, but that is only his league record...Wikipedia don't count Cup & League Cup goals!

doubt there is any truth in it, tho IMO it would cost 15m and Hoyte (although Finnan suggested in the Pool deal IMO is as good as hoyte despite the age dif) as apposed to pools 16m+ & Finnan for Arsenal to get Barry.

Arshavin is desperate to come here and we might take Barry from under the noses of the pool. If they come off I will be a happy man. Go Arsenal.

would be revenge for Liverpool stealing Babel last year

Birmingham press and radio are going big on the story too so I'd say there's definitely something in it...

As a Villa fan myself, I think most Villa fans would be happy to see Barry join Arsenal... We're not gonna be able to hang onto him, so we'd much rather see him join ye than Liverpool. Think O'Neill might do aswell after the way Liverpool have conducted themselves throughout the whole saga to date... and we've a better chance of catching Liverpool than we do Arsenal. Barry to Arsenal would be the IDEAL conclusion to the whole thing.

    Best of luck with it!

Your right there wynters. I am sure the two clubs could come to some sort of an agreement and you may get as well a couple of good young Gunners who O'Neill could really mold into the team for the future.

tbh I think there is nothing in it myself but would like it to be true, the tabloids are just trying to spice up the Barry saga by using Arsenal. although he would do well at the Emirates if for some reason Arsene suddenly decided to pay over the odd's for an English player who isnt a teenager

Yeah that's all over the shop. Wenger rates him apparently, but Milan seem pretty keen to offload him. he has two years left on his contract apparently, and a loan deal has already been done with Bordeaux so he wont arrive at the Emirates until July 2009. So assuming there's some element of truth in those reports Wenger's dropped €15 million off the asking price for a fringe player with only a year left on his contract. seems a strange deal to me...

Not totally Arsenal related, I'm just surprised that Winterburn will be working with Ince, always thought there was no love lost between the majority of Arsenal players and Ince.
Former Arsenal full-back Nigel Winterburn is to join manager Paul Ince's backroom team at Blackburn to work as defensive coach.

There is no way we can get Arshavin. Barcelona have stated they are having trouble matching his wage demands. What hope for us then?

Agreed - but if we can get a full season (or close enough) from Rosicky, I don't think he'll be needed...

indeed. Nasri as replacement for Hleb should be enough in terms of the offensive requirements. I'm not even fully convinced a replacement will be needed for Adebayor with Bendtner in the sidelines.

get a good CB in and i'll be happy.

    +1
    Definitely where we're lacking.
Especially when Sagna got injured and we had to put Kolo at RB

If we sell Adebayor and don't sign a replacement I will NOT be happy. We will have zero chance of winning the PL next season if that happens.

Bentley to Spurs for a stupid fee is being reported quite a bit today - I wonder if we included a sell-on clause like we did with Pennant and a few others? I've read that it could be as much as £7m but that's probably just speculation.

would you have said the same at the start of last season though about him?

it seems certain a clause is in there, but i don't think the amount is known by anyone. i've seen various figures mentioned here and there, 20% in one place, 40% in another... none reliable.

I didn't expect Arsenal to challenge for the title last season, so yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,397 ✭✭✭yahoo_moe

40% is also the figure being quoted as what Arsenal can expect if James Harper is sold on from Reading so that could be about right in Bentley's case too (assuming there's a clause there).

As for striking options, I'm a big fan of Bendtner's and think he contributed a lot more in the first half of last season than some people give him credit for but even with a fit Van Persie all season (and as we all know that isn't exactly cast-iron), I don't think he's ready to be a regular first team starter.

I think Van Persie does more deep hold-up play than people remember or realise but my gut feeling is that I'd still like someone brought in if Adebayor goes.

Always had time for Ince, remember we very nearly signed him from Italy, in fact if I recall one paper said it was a done deal.

Players will mostly always get on away from the game so would not be surprised from that point of view, wish Winterburn all the best of luck, delighted for him, he was very very under rated player, would be great to see him back at Arsenal one day, he is also a very good pundit on the tv,so will miss him from Football First.
