Racist Children? WTF?

Apparently not liking foreign food constitutes racism now. The world is broken and not even Bono can make it better:(
Toddlers who dislike spicy food 'racist'

Toddlers who turn their noses up at spicy food from overseas could be branded racists by a Government-sponsored agency.

The National Children's Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care.

This could include a child of as young as three who says "yuk" in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food.

The guidance by the NCB is designed to draw attention to potentially-racist attitudes in youngsters from a young age.

It alerts playgroup leaders that even babies can not be ignored in the drive to root out prejudice as they can "recognise different people in their lives".

The 366-page guide for staff in charge of pre-school children, called Young Children and Racial Justice, warns: "Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships."

It advises nursery teachers to be on the alert for childish abuse such as: "blackie", "Pakis", "those people" or "they smell".

The guide goes on to warn that children might also "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk'".

Staff are told: "No racist incident should be ignored. When there is a clear racist incident, it is necessary to be specific in condemning the action."

Warning that failing to pick children up on their racist attitudes could instil prejudice, the NCB adds that if children "reveal negative attitudes, the lack of censure may indicate to the child that there is nothing unacceptable about such attitudes".

Nurseries are encouraged to report as many incidents as possible to their local council. The guide added: "Some people think that if a large number of racist incidents are reported, this will reflect badly on the institution. In fact, the opposite is the case."

Sounds like they're picking on one very small part of the document to try and make a mockery out of the whole thing.

Teaching children that prejudiced attitudes are unacceptable is in no way a bad thing.

I find these policies disgustingly ageist.
    I'm highly offended.

Since it's the British press, I'm going to imagine, it's been completely quoted out of context.

    Something like.

"To help encourage people to respect each others cultures, you could try encouraging children to try each others local cuisine's, although, some children might

"react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk"

This should only be considered a rascist incident if they reject it as "I'm not eating that f*cking p*ki food""

I have seen 4 year olds being racist.
Refusing to eat an unfamiliar food is not racist

Everyday in the British press there is an article about the latest muslim teacher, shopkeeper, student, doctor etc who has being offended or hasnt had his/her preference taken into account .

    The latest one

Two white children were punished by being sent home for not wearing a veil in a class while learning about other cultures. The teacher, herself a muslim also said the children refused to kneel in prayer to Meca as muslims do .

Now if even if half these stories are true and there is every evidence to suggest they are ,then can you blame white people for being offended ?

the thing is ,There are a lot of people in UK who have genuine serious concerns about issues relating to muslims but as usual are not being listened to and i aint talking about the BMP .I am talking about your average working/middle class brit who has as much right to complain about muslims as they (muslims) have to complain abiut whitey ......see what i mean ?

I wonder what the reaction would have been had it been muslim children being brought into a Christian church made pray to Jesus/God and Mary and made wear Christian symbols...

I would guess something like this :pac:

You have a very good point there. Sadly, a scenario that image would very possibly be the outcome.

Hey, white people suffer racism aswell though. It's not our fault that our ancestors were colonisers/slaveowners/pricks.
If a white person claims they find something racist and offensive towards them, I doubt they'd be taklen too seriously because we are in the majority in this part of the world.

No offence to terry but assuming he was being sarcastic/funny /serious etc (not really important ) what was so fantastic about it ? I though it was just an average response .It wasnt as if i or any of the following posters were using racist speak .Just curious ?
