    Hi all,

just got engaged (yay ;-)) - and am starting to go into planning overdrive (fierce competition for all other bridezillas out there ;-))

    Anyways, problem is as follows:
we're getting married in Germany, in a nice castle, but just doing the registry wedding. I'm not in any church, not religious, nothing. Hubby is Catholic, and wants a blessing in Ireland, to keep the Catholic side of the family happy.

I don't mind a blessing as such (I had to promise I won't hiss and spit ;-)) - but will the Catholic church give a blessing to a semi-religious couple? Who do I contact about this? The parish priest? Or some head honcho?

    Any info appreciated ;-)

(I'm sure there'll be more questions about weddings in general later...;-))

    Cheers
    galah

Marriage is a sacrament so if you want a Catholic blessing I would expect the priest to suggest this...and you know all that goes along with that - pre-marriage course etc etc..... I too had a civil service years ago and always thought that a church blessing would be nice - when I enquired the priest was very nice but explained that marriage is indeed a sacrament etc etc....

maybe somebody else on here has received a general blessing??? and can advise you more:)

    Thanks for that!

I think the blessing is off the cards at this stage - too much hassle...We might check with the family priest and see what he says, but as you said, i'm not holding out much hope that it'll be a simple affair - and I'm certainly not doing the pre-marriage course and all that...:)
