    Ok so i got an item off ebay but it took like a month longer than supposed to. It was thought to be lost but now has arrived but the seller was sending me another item for free and said he would claim through Royale mail that it was lost . he said if the original was to turn up, then tell him

    I i decide not to tell him the original item arrived and get another item free will he know the original came.

    I'm almost certain Royal Mail will send you a form to sign to say you didnt receive the item before they refund the seller. so if you lied and signed the form, you 'could' be charged with fraud if they could prove you received the item.

    but if its a low value item the seller might not claim for it.

    Was it registered? If it was, then he'll know you received it. If it wasn't, then there is no way to track it, and he'll get no refund from Royal Mail as they don't insure unregistered mail. In either case, you'll not be asked to sign anything.

    I still think jor_el is incorrect, the sender/seller can claim from royal mail even if the package wasnt sent by registered post.

    And then they'll ask you to sign a document, otherwise the sender could claim for non-receipt without the buyer ever knowing about it.

    Yes. All Airmail is covered by up to £36 compensation if the letter is lost or damaged and it's our fault.

    Seemingly you can claim from Royal Mail for unregistered post. I'd imagine it's very difficult to prove it was not delivered though. Also, the sender needs to have kept proof of postage.

    Anyway, if it was not registered, then there's no way for the seller to know that the first one was delivered.

    I think its registered, But I only paid like €4 for postage so maybe its not, You see its Xbox 360 Controller , So another one would be handy. But i will wait and if i dont hear anything from the seller then hopefully i get away scottfree:D
