After spending a pleasant evening in front of the tele box with beer & footy, I was guilt tripped by a female housemate into taking out the bins. Imagine my surprise (and disgust) at returning to find Sex & The City on...

I figured that you were the experts to come to on this one, this is an outrage, I cant stand that show! How do I prevent this madness from occuring again? :(

You bring the remote control with you next time you're putting out the bins.

    Amateur mistake, tbh.

It wouldn't have helped, there's buttons on the tv!

I know, I'm feeling very sorry for myself. I couldn't argue cos she'd just washed all my dishes for me. I didn't ask her to, I would have done it myself when they were stacked dangerously!

TV in the bedroom for her, ftw.

A small black and white portable should suffice.

And the football on the large plasma in the sitting room, and a beer-fridge beside the couch.

If you time it right, she should be available to get you a beer at the breaks in the soaps.

Schoolboy error. Bins never happen while there is good telly to be watched.

Let this be a lesson to you.

Buy a second telly. Tightwad ;)

Hmmm some interesting suggestions there guys, I especially like DesF's suggestion but unfortunately, no plasma and no beer fridge. :( Think I'll stick with the little tv for now but a beer fridge is certainly workable...

It wouldn't have helped, there's buttons on the tv!

Irrelevent, you can override them with the remote on your return.

As for the other suggestions about buying a second tv, what the brothers meant to say is tell her to buy a second tv. I don't see why your beer money should be diminished in the name of SATC.

Obviously Zaphs time spent as a mod of the LL was well spent!

maybe they haven't noticed he's still modding the place!

Ah of course, thanks Zaph it all makes sense now!

Also, a word of warning to all! Next time a wimmins asks you if you think the kitchen is a mess in the middle of a game/show/film, don't just nod and agree cos it's easy. ;)

Sex in the City has a redhead in it. She's pretty hot.

Beyond that I don't think TV is one of the points where I'm going to fit in here. I don't really do TV. But TV with redheads I do a bit.

Should she not be doing something useful like preparing a meal instead of obstructing the viewing?

Does your TV have child lock? :D Then you just need to make sure to carry your remote at all times. If she were to get it, I'm afraid you would truly be f****d!

Haha, believe me lads, it's not something I hope to repeat. :D As Wesley Sneijder was volleying a cracker of a goal into the Italian net, a dishcloth was being lowered into a tub of hot water and disinfectant. Sheer madness when the shops sell disposable J-Cloths.

If you must do it warn her before you go to bring out the bins that you will be resuming your tv watching when you return. So even if she does change the channel you have all the right to change it back...

I was about to post something and then got distracted  ... she can read me the news any day!!

Oh, now I remember. To answer the OP, it's actually very simple to get back control of the TV. When you came back you should have sat on the couch, looked at her and told her you were hungry. She would have popped off to make some rasher sambo's and you would have had control again!

I try this one on a regular basis and in my experience, the most effective comeback is to sit with a big head on you till the footy gets turned back on. Works every time for his good self.:D

I have to agree with this method, but even better is to sit there and make annoying remarks & quips about the current show. For Sex & The City for example, try asking how many ex-boyfriends Horseface is going to bump into during the episode.

This method may also result in the wimmins leaving the room, allowing you to stretch out on the couch.

the footie has full coverage on RTé2 so..... rip out the Chorus/Sky/NTL box and fire it out the window... Stick in a pair of them Rabbits Ears into the TV and enjoy the Footie on RTé
