Is yours the 9th? Thats my AC day. They only consider your IST marks if when all candidates have been assessed and ranked according to merit score, there are 2 people with the same score. The the lower the merit number the better (200 is better than 500).

What exactly does vetting entail?? do many people fail at this stage of the process?? What sort of things would cause you to fail?

Heard it is middle of the month they are sending things out. Just working away and not thinking about it at the minute.

Steven, the vetting is basically the Psni checking you and your family background to make sure you have a clean record and haven't commited any serious offences in the past. Obviously if you have a criminal record for something serious you will be rejected, things like parking tickets etc are ok and not a problem as long as you declare them. It will all be explained when you get to that stage.

does anyone know where the merit scores start........IE can someone get a merit score of 1 or does it start high like 100's??????

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 721 ✭✭✭goodcopbadcop

Yep someone has to have a score of 1. Everyone who goes through the assessment centre and passes gets ranked based on their results.

planning on starting into some exercise this week, just incase i get a call for the august intake.

im not particularly over weight or anything, but i have no fitness at all, having not ran in years :p

ive looked up the physical competence requiements on the psni site, but was wondering if anyone knows roughly what i should be aiming in regards to minutes per mile? something i can monitor on the treadmill you know...

any help wud be appreciated :)

As someone who runs 3 times a week round a forrest, I cant say I know how you feel, guess im lucky I actually like running and being wrecked, gives me something to do.

only advice I can give any of you out there who are finding it hard to get going is to just stick at it, you wont get fit by doing nothing. Sure it will hurt, you will be sick, but when you stick at it long enough you will find it easier and easier until you enjoy it. Seems a long way off but its not, just take it one day at a time. The best tip I can give for being fit is to get out of the gym and away from the treadmill, get to a jogging trail or round the roads, you will get double the results in half the time, and it will get you used to the running you will have to do in garnerville, no treadmills there to lean on the sides!

    Hey guys..
on the fitness side of things..
start of doing a bit of scout pacing for example, running 3mins and walk for 3 mins.. then decrease walking to 2 when you feel up to it etc etc..
Ps. about the time for miles, my advice would be, dont worry bout mins per mile yet.. just try running for lenghts of time now(ie. running for 15mins wothout stopping is better than running a certain distance..
    just build yourself up.
good advice thought o stay away from treadmills, they are a false confidence boost... trust me on that one!;)

The intake starts on 3rd Aug and pack-ups will go out about 6 weeks before, so roughly 23 June onwards.

You maybe missed out a circle, then that would have put the rest out of order

Hey! Thanks for the suggestion, but I was careful about checkin that!:)

Cannot believe they are so incompetent as to have to lower the pass mark NOT ONCE BUT TWICE! No expert here, but surely if you add the number of people who got 52+ to the number who got 51, then take that away from the quota they need to pass, theyda realised they needed to lower it to 50 in the first place!!!:D

Am I hearing correctly? They have now lowered the pass mark to 51 and now to 50?

That's good news to those who got 50 or 51. Not so great for anyone else. More damn competition!!!

Well done to all those going through.
