Yet another newbie question

    I partioned my drive so I can run Ubuntu.
    I have tried a few different options when trying to install Ubuntu. However I am stuck at this point - see attachment. I have tried a few options but have gotten errors about cluster sizes etc

    Thanks for any help given.

    Can you post another picture without the edit partition window in the way?

    In a liux system you want to have two partitions. A / partition where your system files go and a /swap partition which is the equivalent of windows virtual memory. If your RAM gets full than swap space can be used.

    I also recommend that you also have a /home partition. This means that all system files will go to / and all your personal files will go to /home. In the future if you want to change linux distributions than you can install to the / partion and when it loads up all your personal files will be there because they are in the /home partition.

    So your looking to have something like this.....

    Partition .........Type...........Mount Point..........Format........Size Used

    /dev/sda?........ext3............./..........................tick............I'd use ~ 6/7 Gigs
    /dev/sda?........ext3............./home.................tick............what ever space is available
    /dev/sda2.......ntfs............../media/windows.....no tick.......what ever it lists


    Do you see the line with file type ntfs? I have named it /media/windows This means that an icon with the name windows linking to you partition will be on your desktop. You could equally have called it /media/movies etc

    I also see you have a FAT partition mention. This is probably a memory card in your pc
    Does this help you out or are there more specific questions you have?

    Finally got around to trying what was suggested but the screen shot shows what I get. Not sure if I should proceed and cause some damage???

    hmm your swap partition shouldn't be type ext2. It should be Linux swap or something like that.

    I changed it the type to swap

    Not sure if thats what I supposed to do but it worked!
