Hi, I'm starting a portfolio preperation course in NCAD in june for a month.

I need to get Acrylic & Oil Paint, Brushes, Charcoal, Conte Pastels etc

I want to know what brands should i be looking to get, I would like to get these as cheap as possible, even second hand..

Any help with regard to where to buy and get would be appreciated. I read the sticky on suppliers at the start of this forum but it was started back in 2005 so I was hoping for more up to date ideas

    thanks

    Sed

hi,there is a shop run by ncad students on thomas st. they have all the paints etc you would want at a short distance,we often used evans off capel street aswel -it gives 10% off for students....

evans had reasonable priced acrylics, the cheapest ones they sell are fine...if you want any second hand paints you could put up a sign on the ncad notice board under the archway entrance someone might have some to sell, but evans is prob your best bet....

good luck with the course xx

Thanks very much for your reply.

I went down to Evans and found that their own brand was the cheapest around. I think I will end up starting there anyway.

hi i actually did that course in the summer years ago-i was 16 at the time and have since done my degree there,i am 30 now!....

it is a good course to do and i remember it was challenging enough....i had none of the paints etc and remember trying to get everything together...

from what i remember it covered a range of mediums, painting, drawing, sculpture, using alot of different mediums like, paper, card, wire, glue, its always handy to have your own, scissors, stanley knife,glue,paper-etc-we had home work to bring in also which would be part of the discussion in class... e.g an art project,if you need any advice-give me a shout, and good luck xx
