I've a friend who's back frm visiting South Africa, he befriended a taxi man and got an "insider view". He says when Nelson Mandela dies it will be in a huge turmoil, and as you can see frm the pics it's already crazy. Northern Africans vs South Africans (black v. black) as far as I picked up. Independent article backs that up.

Photo is shocking. I mean that as strong as the word can describe

What interests me is what mental state do you have to be in to feel such an act is justified? Do they enjoy the results or see them as a grim 'necessity'?

If no country is going to physically help over in Africa, they should at least send some Mercenaries.

Then again it would probably be like a scene from Black Hawk Down...:(

Crazy, that with all the memories of apartheid, still fresh, that you'd have this sort of racism happening now.

what the **** is going on in that continent, are they not capable of being humans???

for **** sake its all aload of ****e!!
    what did he die for,

i hate you, because you live 40 miles up the road????????

i hate you im white your black????

what the **** is wrong with people???

Why are you acting like this only happens in Africa? Have you never been in Northern Ireland where being a Catholic/Protestant in the wrong place can get you beaten to death and being a foreigner can get your house petrol bombed? As if this ridiculous, irrational hatred only exists in Africa. A couple were doused in petrol and set on fire in the North recently. There are sick, sick people everywhere.

    Some linkage to BBC

Basically SA is still a developing country but is being seriously mismanaged by Thabo Mbeki. He's had almost 8 years of power and hasn't built on the Mandela era. Unemployment at 25% and way higher in the townships where this occurred. Has taken idiotic stances on AIDS/HIV. Has taken a cowardly stance on the whole Zimbabwe issue by essentially letting Mugabe do whatever the hell he likes and now it's coming back to bite him in the ass.
He mishandled the immigrants fleeing Zimbabwe and now risks tipping SA over the edge. Thankfully he's soon leaving power but I don't know if his replacement is going to be much better considering he's already up on corruption charges.
It's sad really as a strong SA is needed for a strong Africa

the scariest thing is that it wasn't even paramilitary/vigilante types... just ordinary folks.
There was a concrete pillar lying near him, splattered with blood. We can only imagine what was done to him before he was set alight.

The police stayed with him until the paramedics arrived, doing what they could . But residents gathered at the scene were laughing.

Kim Ludbrook, a photographer, admonished them, and we reminded them this was human being and that what had happened was barbaric. Still they laughed.

The burn victim, whose name has not been released, died last night in hospital.

    A. that was horrible, thoughts of what humans are capable of doing to other humans is unbelievable, we are truly the most savage of all creatures on the earth.

    B. i really dont think linking to a ****e, i mean site, like stormfront should be encouraged, especially from a mod???

Not nice. SA has a bloody history in recent times, and when people are brutalised, they become brutal. That poor, poor man.

I'm all for having a laugh. Really I laughed just the other day. For me the flame grilled comment was just a bit nasty and I gave the same reaction I would if I heard someone say that about that pic in real life or the napalm girl photo from Vietnam. It's a bit sick really. With that said I'm often the first one to make a bould joke and I enjoy a good Madeline gag as much as the next feller which is why I didn't report it or anything. I just posted my reaction to the comment at the time. No biggie and I'm not angry. :) <--See

Africa in general seems to have simmering issues between the various ethnic groups that has never been sorted out. Makes Europe look simple.

yes, i am sure it is very funny. and I am perfectly willing to concede that I am wrong about this. However, after spending some time attempting to see the humour and work up a guffaw I think it might be best to ask you for your help.
    How exactly is it funny?

Will you respond with your stock response on the relativity of humour?

Meh, I found the story horrific as well, but I still don't see any point in getting riled over such a joke.

That's probably the understatement of the year. Anyone remember the butchering that went on in Ruanda ? Anyone spare a thought for the slaughter in Darfur and Eastern Congo ? You'd start to believe Africa is full of racists and xenophobes...

The continent of Africa is f**ked. We should all remember this when lamely posting about poor public transport or why petrol is dear. Etc. Etc.

Used to work with a fellow who was in the Army in SA. Some of the stories he would tell. People just aren't as valuable over there. The homicide rate is through the roof.

With the atrocities that happen in Africa, Rwanda, Sudan, Sierra Leone, and now this, is there any reason as to why Africans act like such animals? I mean they seem to integrate into western society better than any other races but on that continent you read of absolutely unspeakable things. Is it all tribal stuff or what? Acting like bloody monkeys they are, you'd think they'd have developed beyond this in this day and age ffs
