OpenStreetMap - a call to arms

A project I've gotten into in a big way in the last couple of weeks is OpenStreetMap - a collaborative project to map the streets, roads, footpaths, canals... of the world.

I've done a fair bit of mapping around Mayo and environs since I started. There's still a huge amount of work to be done, though.

Anyone out there with a GPS and some spare time who'd like to contribute?

Getting a GPS soon, when I do, I'll give you a hand with west mayo for the summer.

    Yay!

You're based in Westport, aren't you? I've mapped most of the streets, but a lot of street names need to be filled in. With decent local knowledge, that's something that can be done without a GPS.

Its a great idea, I've contributed a little in South Dublin, as you say though there is a lot of work to be done.

I tried to spur some interest in the GPS forum. You seem to be getting more support in here though! I'm using a Nokia N95 which works surprisingly well.

I'm living in the Netherlands at the moment so I had to put it on hold for a while
