Just wondering is this song about getting back with an ex-girlfriend?

My friend is thinking of using it at her wedding but I think it might be more suitable for a couple who have 'refound' each other after a time apart?

To me he is talking about a curent partner, who were with each other before, didnt quite work right because maybe they were too young or whatever.. but have gotten back together because it was meant to be.

If this is the case, it might be apt for couple who've had a bumpy road together but solved their differences.
