my friend is getting married next may, we're about 2 announce our engagement & would like 2 get married in March, 7 wks b4 her. is this bad etiquette? should we wait till after her wedding 2 have ours?

I don't think so. There are lots of logical reasons to get married earlier, not least that many places are cheaper outside the peak summer period. It may put a little financial strain on guests going to both, but if you try to please every guest coming you'll never get a date. I think its ok, but maybe flag to her that you're considering a spring wedding too, before you tell everyone else.

I'd say it to her, and try to do it in person to gauge whether she's just being nice when she says it's ok or whether she means it.

Whilst it wouldn't bother me, I know it does other people especially if a lot of the guests are going to be similar or if it's in the same church or venue.

Depending on where in the country you are you'll be doing quite well to get everything you want for yours booked with a 10-11 month window (it's sad I know).

In the busy summer period it will make absolutely no difference. Lats summer my oh and I had secretly booked our wedding and told no-one as we weren't officially engaged. Other friends announced their engagement and we had some secret smiles as we knew we would actually be married before them. It made no difference, 7 weeks is loads of time. Now me and other girl prepare loads together and have wedding talks that would bore anyone else into a coma
