Do not want to Lock the itouch as such, with general password.
I would like to lock particular screens, ie ones that have configurations/setups etc.
Otherwise I would find it very hard to give it on load/test as all my setting could be messed up [by accident] when it was returned.

Also hope that pics are working now.

There is a app that can hide icons (I can't remember the name offhand), but you'd need to leave that app unhidden obviously, might be an idea.
You might want to research it properly too before you do it, I've seen some forums where lads have hidden icons and were unable to get them back.

Got mobilescrobbler (cool name :) ) its pretty cool alright.

sudios, I've mine set to 1hr too, I'd say thats enough.

duffman, at the moment you won't be able to, possibly in the future if they can get safari to use addons.

Nice apps here. I had to get a replacement because of poor battery (SSH left on was a big cause - have a software switch now) I decided to stick to just the necessities and keep it simple and looking clean. And my god this thing is so good with a decent battery.

I like customising it myself, esp with the order, removing default apps I don't like, icon images and names. Note the Installer with the Photos icon in the bottom 4 and the different icon and name (services) for the SSH switch. And of course, I slapped my name up the top left :-)

    customise can hide icons.

There is a symbol like an eye in the icon order section . click on that, then untick the eye for each of the icons you want hidden.

Where did you find the SSH switch?

If you install an application called "Services" it gives you a switch for SSH, EDGE, BT and Wi-Fi (EDGE and BT obviously for iPhone). Very handy I must say, EDGE and BT stay on, couldn't tell you why.

    sshd1jpg.pngiphone-installer-ui.png

I had to downgrade from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 and use an installer from my PC and one of the options was to include a SSH switch. Use the "Services" install from the AppTapp installer. There is also an app called "OpenSSH", I haven't got my Touch on me but I believe it's the same.

Anyone having problems with Apollo recently? It was working fine for me up till a couple of days ago when it said it was unable to authenticate my email address. It happens for both my gmail and hotmail account when logging into msn.

Best plugin by a mile I've found is mobile scrobbler, using it on my iPhone - it stores the tracks i've been listening to on the iPod and then scrobbles them whenever it has Wifi / Edge access. It also streams last.fm's various radios.

just checked my hotmail one there and it's not working either, i'll try find the problem somewhere.

apparently a lot of people are having a problem with it, could have something to do with Microsoft changing msn's compatability.

    Yeah I can't use Apollo either :(
    Any other alternatives??...

    What exactly is ssh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,442 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

    ssh stands for secure shell.

it allows you get a command line interface (like a command prompt window) into the ipod touch or the iphone's innards.

it's very daunting for users who don't have some unix command line experience and you can do damage in there so if you want to learn before fecking it up i suggest downloading cygwin for windows to get familiar with the unix command line (AKA shell, you see where ssh comes from now :p).

or you can use a GUI program eg. winSCP (http://www.winscp.com) which allows you to ssh into the ipod touch or iphone through an ftp styled program (ala filezilla etc.)

ScummVM: It's a great emulator for the old LucasArts games. Monkey Island 1&2, Day of the Tentacle, Loom etc. The point and click nature of the games probably makes this the best suited emulator for the iPod Touch.

I've downloaded ScummVM but any idea where I can download the games!! I used to love Monkey Island and would love it on my Touch!

Tusky if the ziphone icon is the same one as on my iphone it's just a web link to his blog.

press and hold your finger on the icon until they start to shake, then hit the x on the ziphone icon.

This may be a stupid question but anyone have a link for jailbreak my touch and downloading installer? I looked around for the installer but i got mostly blogs and stuff. Cheers

www.ipodtouchfans.com the jailbreak you use depends on what firmware you're on, easiest way is update it to 1.1.4 and use ZiPhone, takes about 2 mins and is really easy.

I am on j/b 1.1.1 and everything works okay. I have been reading quite a bit on that site as well as others. I have read that I might see a slight improvement in sound quality and battery life if I go to 1.1.4. What would your view be?

Also it Ziphone or iLiberty seem straight forward, but what I am unsure about is the steps I need to take to get me to 1.1.4. I have downloaded seperately the restore1.1.4.ipsw file (160 odd mb), so do I just hook up to itunes, shift and click on restore and then select this file? Am I then ready to go on Ziphone or iLiberty?

    Cheers

Ive read that its better not to use a backup and to just do a normal restore.

yeah i'd advise you to do a full restore and go to a clean 1.1.4 and then j/b using ZiPhone, it's very simple and far less hassle to just wipe it clean than trying to get there from 1.1.1.

i wouldn't use ziphone ever since his fiasco with the unlocking of the iphone.

jist of the story is he overwrites a part of the iphones ROM that cannot be updated (although i think another more reliable coding team have found a reverse solution) and he does so without warning, he's also a ****e coder and steals code from other sources.
