    Oops, just saw this forum.. already posted this in the "computers" forum!

    How is open source software not inherently free of charge? Surely as soon as the source-code becomes available to the public all profitability is lost, as people go out and develop their own versions of the software... no? How can a company make a profit from it, and who pays them for it?
