Being Promiscuous with WPA

Having an issue getting Promiscuous mode to be promiscuous on a WPA-PSK network. I can get this working fine in unencrypted network and i can get this working in a roundabout way on a wep network(monitor mode + wireshark).

Monitor mode also would be usefully (a little less) but the same issue exists.

My setup is atheros card with madwifi-ng drivers.

-Do i need to patch wpa-supplicent to do this?
-Is there any version of wireshark that can decode these?
-Has anyone had this issue and solved it?

The only workaround i have is a MITM attack but this is noisy/messy and causes lots of issues i dont want.

ogh an yes this is my network.

What about using a more dedicated tool such as airodump, it seems to happily get WPA packets for me, though I'm not using madwifi-ng drivers.

I was using wireshark while associated to the network. With what you have already said i have an idea.

I went digging on airodump-ng and some of the information there might help me out. http://www.aircrack-ng.org/doku.php?id=airodump-ng
(network manager may have been reconfiguring the card as i never killed the dispatcher):o

    old but worth digging further

after more digging i may have more issues. Each client may get its own key so i may not be able to do this while associated.

Will post back if this works out or not.

    Thanks again.

if you're a windows user with some spare cash, perhaps you should invest in the AIRPCAP adapter.

Its specially designed to work with wireshark.
It also runs with Cain & Abel / Aircrack..etc for monitoring 802.11b/g networks.
different versions allow transmission at an extra cost.

    the alternative is linux based.

    got this working with airodump.

Cant do it while associated as far as i can tell without a second wireless card.

There's a compeltely new 802.11 stack with the 2.6.24 kernel which may help.
