Nitro buggy for beginner

    Hi guys,

Sorry for another "I'm a beginner" tread. Just wondering if any of you guys could recommend a good nitro buggy for me. I'm looking for something tough for rough grass/sand/dirt. I'm guessing a 1/8th scale would be best. But been a beginner I'm not sure if I should go for something big. Does bigger mean more complicated? I used to have nitro aeroplanes so I'm not a total beginner to engines/radios.

    Thanks alot.

    P.S. Didn't want to hijack FuzzyWuzzyWazza's thread!

A 1:8 buggy would a good way to go. In general they are very robust and can handle most terrains. Also further down the lline if you get bored of bashing around you have the option to go racing with at the likes of the Navan Nitro Nuts club. In terms of the running of the car there is little difference between a 1:10 and a 1:8.

Choosing which 1:8 buggy to go for is little less easy as the market has a huge selection of brands. Are you looking for a ready to run buggy or considering your past modelling experience are you looking to build the car from kit? Kits are usually of a much higher quality as they are aimed more at competition end of the market.

    Regards,

    Oisin

Thanks for the reply. No, for the moment I'm just looking for a RTR buggy. I've decided to get a 1/8th scale model but as you say there's a lot out there. Any ideas? Been looking at the Savage X 4.6 monster truck. Think I'd like something with more ground clearance for terrain.

If you cant decide between Monster Truck (ie. Savage )
    Or Buggy ( ie. Hyper 7 )
Go for a truggy .. Again I would reccomend a Hong Nor CRT rtr.. Very impressive and strong.. Great for Bashing or Racing.

Not certain but you could contact Rennicks Modeltune in the North.
Ask Andrew if he can supply them
If not then go to Bolton Modelmart

The Revo is powerful alright, but the instructions that come with it are excellent. If the OP follows them to the letter, he shouldn't have any problems... In saying that, they are expensive, so if he did f... up it could be pricey!

Starting to look at the Cen Matrix RTR buggy now. Anybody any comments on this machine?

    Thanks.

Was thinking of getting the CEN myself, seems to be a good buggy, well made and pretty though from what I can gather.

Just make sure that spares are available for the buggy you pick, otherwise you may be left waiting quiet a while for parts to arrive, and thats just no fun:D

Currently I am trying to decide between the CEN and the Crono suggested by bonisio, they wouldn't be too far off price wise, and HobbiesIreland actually stocking the parts for the Crono would be a definite plus.

Cen spare parts availability used to be poor with very little support from Irish model shops. I would advise going for one of the bigger name brands. Traxxax, HPI, Mugen, OFNA would be popular brands.

But don't forget, parts for all brands are usually readily available online (apart from some of the obscure chinese stuff).

You mention you have nitro experiance, so break in of high power engines shouldn't be an issue, so I'll stick with my Revo suggestion :D

Cheers guys, I see BoyzToys stock the Cen so I'd presume they'd also have spares readily available. Cen also comes with a fairly decent digital radio and looks the part. Think I'll give that one a shot for starters.

    Look around you..!
Check all forums.. Count how many top guys run CEN's
    You wont see very many.

Forget about the Revo. It is not for racing unless you spend another small fortune on it. Trust me .. I know as I had one.
Have a serious Think regarding a Hong Nor..
One of the best out there

Adigital radio and looking the part doesnt add up to a good Truggy.
"Never judge a book by its cover!

Best of luck with it. :D
