No band, just DJ?

We were thinking of just having a DJ for our reception as it will only be about 150 people. We have heard most of the arguments for and against but our main reason is the quality of the entertainment, we have both been to weddings where the band has started off with the first dance and then drifted into more obscure country and western songs or have just mucked up covers of modern songs so that the dance floor never fills.
I'm just wondering if anybody has any experience, does it make the night seen cheap and small time?

Once your DJ is good and someone thats suits your tastes then you will have a great night. I agree some bands just don't do songs justice. Sometimes they just change them too much. I'm just having a dj for mine and he is very good so I'm happy to just have him. Saves money too!

The thing with having a band and dj is if one of the band members is the dj, there might be a delay before the dj starting. I thing a dj is better as you can give him a list of songs you like and ones you don't want. (I have played a song and been told to turn it off as it was a passed relative's favourites song :eek:) Also a dj can give advice as to what to play.

But at the end of the day it's YOUR day, have it the way YOU want. Congratulations to you anyway, may you both have very many happy years together.

Go with both but make sure you and your bride to be check out the band before booking them. A lively band always gets people up dancing

I think you'd be mad to not have a band. Spend on your guests, which means, food, drink and entertainment. Otherwise they will moan and only rmemeber that you didn't have a band. My band did an ipod dj session for free. I also had the celtic dancers which everyone loved. If you want to save money, save it on your dress.
