Can anyone recommended a free VOIP service which will allow me to call landlines and mobiles? Is there one? I seem to have to pay for all the ones I have found online eg. voipcheap.com

    hi silvine,

Free calls to landline you can find : voicecheap as you mentioned can provide you (with some limitations) with free landline calls. That's fine if you are only calling a small amount of time per week.

but free calls to landline, I don't think it exists ... Call termination to mobiles are quite dear since you need to pay for the use of all the network of antennas (and other GSM equipment).

I you plan to make a large amount of calls, you'll need a provider with proper services : http://boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=250586

Are you looking for a business solution or a home user solution, if it is for a business network, take a look at gnugk.org they provide an excellent VOIP and video conferencing open source gate keeper and provide good documentation, we use the GnuGK for a video conferencing network at work and I have to say I find the gate keeper to be as good as any proprietary model.

I work from home, for myself. I am clocking up large mobile bills from calling international phone numbers. I do not speak on the phone for long, so I am hoping for something cheap and cheerful. ( I will still use my mobile for Irish numbers)

Try skype, no charge when calling other skype phones and I think the rates are reasonable when calling normal landlines, mobiles etc
