Classy (not vintage) car hire

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum so apologies if I come across as being very green on these matters, but happy circumstances have brought me here to stand before you, a grinning idiot: My sister - the oldest in the clan - is getting married in June and I would like to be her chauffeur on the day.

Basically, she's having a relatively small wedding (just ~40 people) and she is keeping to a fairly small budget. I had thought of hiring a nice car for the weekend and driving herself and my Dad to the chapel and then the happy couple to the reception afterwards. This would be sort of a wedding gift to her as she then wouldn't have to stress about it. (Being the oldest lad in the family, I'm protective that way!)

I was wondering if there are places you can hire nice cars like that. I had been thinking of Hertz, Budget etc, but my feeling is that they cannot ensure a certain car of a certain colour and so on. I could be wrong about this. I have checked online and a lot of the rental places near me (Galway Airport and city) don't even have the "premium" class cars in stock when I search.

Does anyone here have similar experience or is there some other rental service for weddings? I don't think she wants the whole "Ferrari / McLaren F1" ;) type of thing. Just a nice BMW or Merc or something, so that's why I was thinking of your usual car rental places. Any suggestions? She's getting married in Mullingar by the way. I live in Galway though.

Is there any guest coming to the wedding with a swank car? That'd be my first choice.

Have a shot over on the Motoring / Cars forum someone over there might be able to do a deal with you.

    Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately, I doubt if any of the guests will have a swanky car. It's only the immediate family (plus one) who'll be there, and we ain't a well-to-do family!

I will try your suggestion of looking on the other forum. Thanks again for your help!

I'd say renting a nice car for the weekend could end up nearly as expensive as hiring a "wedding car" - isn't even budget car rental pretty pricey? As has been mentioned, the nice folks in the motors forum may be able to help out.

Another option - there are a few taxi drivers who drive nice cars that would do the trick; Chrysler 300c / BMW 5 and 7 series / Mercs etc. How about negotiating a price for half a day's work - I reckon it would be cheaper than rental, though you wouldn't get to drive.
