tell me folks, would i be able to run COD4 smoothly on

P4 2.4ghz

512MB ram

Radeon/Asus 9600 128MB graphics card

my initial gut feeling would be "no"..

Try this config, I reckon you might be able to get 30 fps on low res. Not great but you cant expect much more with that spec tbh.

As far as I remember 9800 is the minumum spec GPU so a 9600 is quite a bit below that. good luck.

well, cod4 runs (and fairly smoothly) with everything turned off and the resolution at the barest of bare minimum (i'm running a 19" lcd so it looks pretty terrible)

i tried kamikazi's sugeestion of the fps cfg, but i cant seem to get it to work. do i delete the config that's there, or do i copy and paste into the cfg file that's already there?

anyway, only played the first level so far due to work commitments, that ship level was pretty feckin awesome i have to say..

find your mp_config.cfg file, copy all the commands from the config i posted and paste them into your mp_config.cfg file.

config_mp is the multiplayer config, if the OP is talking about the ship level, I presume he's playing the singleplayer at the moment. Which is just the config file.

The yitch custom config looks like muck, I wouldn't bother with it in the single player mode.

yeah it's single player i'm playing

it's running anywhere between 20-60 fps now, depending on whats happening on screen. it's playable alright, but i certainly need to upgrade my hardware, starting with more ram and a decent graphics card..

While on this topic, does anyone know what kind of framerates I'll get with this set up as I'm considering getting COD4?

Intel Core 2 Duo (2x 2.33ghz)

2GB RAM

256mb Geforce 8600GT.

I'm kind of thinking I'll be able to play on the medium settings but I just wanted to ask.

I have a similar rig and I can play with 1280*768 or whatever that res is :P on medium settings, but I think I can push it to high I just have not tried yet.
