Possibly a very newbie Question - Driving via Waypoints

Im sorry if this is a very basic question but given my example of driving from Carlow via Clane, Dunshaughlin, Kells and Virginia to Cavan.. How do I set up my Tomtom to drive this way but not to leave the N3 to go into these places if necessary?

i.e. Once I hit the N3, to stay on it and head straight for Cavan?

I know I can just follow the signs for the N3 but I'd like to know how to set the satnav up to take these places as the direction I want to go, not to drive into the centre of each place.. if avoidable.

Clear as muck I'm sure
    Sorry!

    Thanks in advance :)

Which TomTom do you have? Some have this capability. Some don't.
