    No the Demeter brought TO England. The Tzarina Catherine brought him back. Captain Donaldson was Captain of the Tzarina Catherine apparently.

    OK ... in the famous movie ... the ship is called The Vesta.
    In the novel ... the ship is called The Demeter.

    (both are Greek Goddesses)

    So I was only half right ... apologies for any confusion. I remember the movie, I must confess, I never read the book.
