Very cool, but I'd be concerned about the Big N releasing an update that would break it again. I guess its cheap enough to be almost disposable anyway..... ($20)

Ordering now. Maybe I'll start using my Wii again!!

Ha.. I think their website has been blitzed.

Been waiting for this too... I've still got a bunch of imported GameCube games too.

The freeloader may be cheap, but all the imported games you've paid for which will no longer work on your system aren't. So there's a big enough risk there :(

Boo to region locking. Its archaic.

Hmm this seems a bit dubious to me, but I wouldn't mind playing brawl a few months earlier.

Nintendo are always a generation behind the other consoles, the wii online is a joke, especially those ridiculous friend codes.

At last, I'll get to play no more heroes the way it's meant to be played anyway :)

Well what I was basically saying what you could buy one of these, an American copy of Brawl, a little while later Nintendo could release a wii update which makes the freeloader inoperable. So you're stuck with a game you can't play.

For Brawl that would be too painful to imagine.

Now just to play through the American No More Heroes on the other hand... very temping.

So just disconnect the wireless for whenever I play my stateside NMH and Big Ninty can't immasculate it with their stealth updates. Schweet. Get a cheap deal for 'em anywhere koneko?

I wouldn't jump the gun just yet. Looks like it just allows you to play gamecube imports on your wii.

That just means it works for Gamecube games too, which their page says. Their page also specifically says it works for imported Wii games on a Wii, it's the point of this Freeloader, unless they're completely lying through their teeth for no reason.

Gizzle, not sure where is cheapest for import games but videogamesplus.ca are great, and really fast.

Yes but the official website of the product clearly states that it does:

"This is the one you’ve all been waiting for! Wii FreeLoader lets you play ANY region of Wii or GameCube game on your Nintendo Wii! At last, you can import games from other territories and play them on your Wii…"

    http://uk.codejunkies.com/Products/Wii-FreeLoader__EF000595.aspx

    Haha! Snap Koneko!

I'll of course be reporting back if it works, so if anyone is in doubt I'm your guinea pig. Who knows when Datel will actually have their stock though. I'll no doubt get NMH before Freeloader is even shipped.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

Where you ordering NMH from? VGP don't seem to be stocking it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭NunianVonFuch

Play-Asia. I'm not ordering mine until the Freeloader ships tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

Maybe they ran out of stock, I ordered it on VG+ early this morning.
Movietyme probably have it, they're usually a bit slower (for me anyway).

I checked VGP last night and there was no sign of it! Weird.

Damn that codejunkies site won't let me order, keeps saying there's a problem with the address or credit card details

Am in correct in saying that the wiikey does the same function? I havent tried a NTSC game yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,721 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Wiikey requires opening the Wii and soldering, doesn't it?
Wii Freeloader is all software based - insert disk, wait for prompt, then insert game disk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭NunianVonFuch

    Wiikey says:

Direct boot of NTSC Wii imports on PAL consoles (no patch needed, partial compatibility)

Note the partial part. Freeloader works for all! :D

Play-Asia will stock it. At the moment its status is "Announced - Preorders opening soon" if you dont mind a bit of a wait.

Personally I'm waiting till the US version of Brawl is availible before I get excited about this. With Mario Kart hitting europe first I dont like the idea of taking my wii offline to hide from updates that will ruin my brawl fun.

Virtual Console might release something good this year aswell or in the future. If a Wii Freeloader can be released anything can happen.

Also I had no real issue with the bloodless No More Heroes but now that I know thats its a real option I cant wait.

Glad that I cancelled my PAL preorder of NMH now:)

The online features of the Wii are crap in fairness, so I'm not all that worried about disabling the wireless on it...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 499 ✭✭Gizzle

Ack! Got NTSC No More Heroes this morning, but still no sign of my freeloader! Woe is me...:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 227 ✭✭Syke

Planning on sending wii games home to my siblings but wanna know this works first.

    Don't think they'll be shipped until mid-march.
