    Hey all,

I got 3 different letters from the PSNI / Consensia today.
    1.
    The Consensia feedback forms,
    2.
Letter from OH - Fit for Service,:)
    3.
Letter from PSNI recruitment requesting all potential candidates to avoid phoning PSNI on individual applications. i.e. stop harassing them!

Just waiting the vetting process which was started back in November sometime. Has anyone been offered a place with a merit pool no. in the 300’s yet? When is the next intake likely?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭Ethan321

The next available intake you could be offered is prob going to be the last week in april(approx) but there will be intakes thereafter.
Well done with the medical. Hope all works out for you, may be a game of patience though

    Cheers Ethan,

    What stage are you at?

Dying to find out about my vetting. Finding it hard not to ring them for any sort news. I suppose even if I do get past the vetting, I’ve still to go through the 50/50 selection process.
I presume then that selection is not typically based on merit pool numbers but simply the stage your at in the medical/vetting process? I seem to remember a guy mentioning receiving a job offer with a merit pool no. well into the 700s. (I may be wrong)
Is anyone else in the 300s merit pool? When do you think could be the likeliest intake date?

    Hi Coopercop

I seem to be in same sitiuation as yourself, have merit number in 300's, received feedback etc today, have passed medical and vetting forms returned few months ago still haven't heard anything so just waiting for that phone call all being well and in mean time think i will prepare for next campaign!!!

    Cheers

May do the same myself, just as a fall back. The next campaign starts soon! I’m confident enough on passing the vetting , its just that the whole 50/50 selection is really hit or miss. I’ve done all I can do now. Its up to Sir Hugh Orde I guess.

Does anyone know the PSNI standards in detail on tattoo's ? , I remember I talked to some one from Consenia whom couldn’t answer my inquiry.

The tattoo is pictured below. I was looking at the PSNI alongside ambulance service options as I do IPSC here in Canada and Firearms safety training and always had an interest in law. I am worried that if I bother to apply that I will get "shot down" over my tattoo on the possibly of it being viewed sectarian.

    PSNI Recruitment Policy On Tattoos

    1. This note sets out the policy of the Police Service of Northern Ireland on tattoos. Having a tattoo does not prevent you from joining the police service of Northern Ireland, but certain tattoos and their visibility will not be acceptable.

    2. The determination of whether a tattoo is acceptable comes at the vetting stage after all tests, assessments and examinations. It is not possible to provide definitive advice prior to this, but the guidance set out here is intended to assist people with tattoos in determining whether their tattoo(s) would be acceptable.

    3. Tattoos, which will lead to rejection

A tattoo or tattoos, which would be visible when you are dressed in uniform (including short sleeve shirt order) and are considered to be:

    1. obscene; or
    2. sectarian; or
    3. offensive; or
    4. of disproportionate size in overall area; or
    5. likely to give rise to the impression that a member might not impartially discharge his/her duty.

    4. Tattoos, which may lead to rejection

A tattoo or tattoos of the same classifications as at section 3 above which would not be visible when you are dressed in uniform (including short sleeve order) may lead to rejection. All such tattoos must be described giving size, location and nature. Dependent on the nature of the tattoo, it may raise questions about the applicant’s suitability to be a police officer. Judgement has to be made on the nature of the tattoo, the individual’s background and the impression it may convey to others. The variables are immense and cannot be defined. All cases of doubt will be referred to the vetting panel for decision. It should be noted that the PSNI is committed to maintaining a neutral working environment and tattoos, which may not be visible to members of the public, may in certain circumstances be visible to other officers.

    Requirements to provide photographs

In cases of doubt the applicant may be required to produce photographs of their tattoo or tattoos.

I was gonna say I already read that but it seems they've updated their webpage in reguards to that.Looks like that has been shot down , aside from judgement from the vetting proccess.

Coopercop, yes it was myself who was in the 700's and received a job offer. It does appear to be hit and miss, yes we are led to believe that the better the merit pool number the better the chance of getting in but there are other factors as well.
Its probably a good idea to jump in again with the next campaign(6th march), it means that if you arent successful this time then you will be well through the process again

You could always get it removed if you really wanted to be in the psni I guess or go get a really good tan to cover it :)

Good to hear from you Mic.

    How are you getting on?

Has the March squad been finalised?

    Mickey2186

I'm going grand mate. It's hard going, long days and stuff. I'd advise you all to do a bit of running/indoor football or something as if you're not used to the fitness, the first couple of classes can be tough going. Yep, there are around 50 of you, can't wait until theheat is taken of us haha.

    Well done Ethan,
If say I don’t get through this campaign simply because of the 50/50 basis then how much of Campaign 14 do I have to contend with? I hope its simply a case of re applying into the merit pool again. i.e. not having to repeat the long drawn out process run by Consensia?
Wish they could hurry on with the vetting. I’m waiting out for the April intake which would mean if successful I would need some sort of contact probably around he end of March to allow for the 4-5 week notice time?
Has anyone heard back from vetting recently?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 107 ✭✭mickey2186

    Hi Mic,

Glad to hear it is giong well!

    Is it as you expected??

Is the PE really that bad?

How much do you do per day etc...?

I'm sure there is quite a lot of polishing boots/studying at the moment!

    CooperCop

I seem to be in the same position as you, im in the 300's and i too got the three letters yesterday and i've heard nothing back re vetting which was sent off in November!!! Are u goin to go for Campaign 14 just incase???

I dont know what to do!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 43 CooperCop

Yes i'm going to apply just incase I hear nothing from recruitment. May aswell have your name in the hat. I wonder how you do find out if your vetting was successful?
Is it a formal letter or a phone call directly from PSNI recruitment? I'm tempted to phone them on Monday morning to find out some more info.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭Ethan321

Personaly i wouldnt ring them if they are sending letters out not to.
If you havent had a "dear john" letter from recruitment then you are still in with a shout, though i would advise anyone really wanting it to re-apply on 6th march, means you still have a hand in this campaign and on the ball for the next one if this doesnt work out
It will mean going through the whole process again but it will be worth it in the long run.Wont it?

Some people get the call up as late as may or june, or even beyond so dont panic yet, it could still be your year!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 107 ✭✭mickey2186

Best advice is to apply just in case!

I think that for most people the vetting process is probably completed..don't forget there are many who didn't even get vetting forms.

I reckon anyone who has recently passed medical will probably be getting a call from recruitment in a few weeks for the April intake.

Can't be 100% sure, but just have a gut feeling!!!

Got a letter to say im in a merit pool as well yesterday, but my merit number is very high. No vetting, no medical, and no dear john letter. Applying again for campaign 14 next week!!!:)

You can find out your merit number by ringing recruitment, but the letter says not to do this as it slows them down. Although everyone on here has done it so you may as well.

seeing people well behind me in merit pool and same religious background being started i phoned to ask about vetting(had it from nov.)according to vetting section three months is usually minimum period and can take up to a year to be vetted,i had ben told previously i was high enough in merit pool to be offered a place,so i asked if it took a year would i be in danger of losing my place to which i was told no.going on this i dont think i will re-apply in march as i dont see any point due to the fact if i fail vetting then thats it all over and aint much point going through it all again

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 96 ✭✭Ethan321

Fair enough point there neily, and yes it can take time to be vetted.
Mine probably came through fairly quickly as most of my family are security cleared for construction work

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 104 ✭✭uncleneilly

im security cleared myself ethan and have been for about ten years working in maze prison and other security places,my wifes dad was in army for years and the vetting section told me they take one of the longest to get info back from so guess ill just keep fingers crossed and hope for the best

    Hi guys

So glad i found this forum to get up to speed with the process. Can anybody tell me how you know once you have been vetted? I sent my forms off quite some time ago - since then I have been called for medical and received a letter to say i am on a merit list - so have i been vetted? Or will i be informed once vetting is complete? What exactly happens next?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

    Hi,
i'm in exactly the same boat as you, sent off my vetting forms at xmas, and thought because i hadnt heard anything to give up hope, but as luck would have it, i received my med questionaire this week and have my med on the 13th :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 92 ✭✭OfficerProblem?

wow! nice to meet someone going through the same motions! My medical is the 12th so i am the day before you!

I noticed that you had asked about finding out your number in the merit pool - did you ring? I am to scared to ring! And put off by the fact they have specifically told us not to! From what i have gathered from reading bits and pieces from this forum the higher number you are the higher the chance? I don't really understand though! Why do they make the list soo long if those towards the bottom don't seem to have a chance? Seems a bit cruel. Or have i got the wrong end of the stick?

At what stage is the 50/50 carried out? After medical and vetting? Or has it been done already? As you can tell i'm not familiar with the process at all!

    Please help :)

hahah.. cool.. i dont even know whats happening at this medical? they said to dress appropriately! does that mean there is going to be a physical too?? as for the merit pool, i honestly dont know.. but i'm abiding by their wishes and not calling, and i think the 50-50 comes after the medical and all too.. im still a little confused as to whether or not we have been vetted, it seems that this can take up to a year, and from what i hear people who are going for the medical now are in with a chance of the next intake... so thats what i dont get, ... hhhahaha.. where are you travelling from, ? and can you let me know the night of the 12th exactly what was involved? pm me :)

Yea sure no worries - i noticed the 'dress appropriately' comment aswell ha ha. I have a friend who has done it before and apparently the only sort of physical activity you do is afew stretches and the rest is eyes ears and lungs. I was hoping someone on this forum could advise if that is correct and what clothes would be suitable to wear - so if anyone can please let me know!

I'm travelling from sunny Bangor! You?

ah cool..yeah i just got a pm from PSNI saying that "to wear smart-casual clean respectable clothes" so thats all good :) i'm travelling from a bit further away myself.. all the way down in the south east..

What on earth does 'smart casual respectable clothes' mean??? I was going to go in decent sportswear - sort of stuff i would go to the gym in - is that wrong???
