Finding an R4 so so hard to find - but found an M3 DS HERE

Is there any difference? Is it worth while getting an M3 DS?

    R4 or M3 DS 13 votes

Wait and see if you can get and R4

Go for the M3, there's no significant difference.

Just had a quick look there and they've put all r4 orders on hold...:(

I got 2 recently off Gameyeeeah who are meant to be getting more stock in next few days (bit wary about pre-ordering with them though!) otherwise will be looking for M3 for myself!

Have set up 2 R4's for the kids DS's and very simple to use so hoping if it does come to it and have to get an M3, its a similar type of story.

Ordered 2 R4's from gameyeeeah.com about 2 weeks ago and received them today. Ordered 5 or 6 from dealextreme last Nov and received them just in time for Xmas. Fantastic devices. R4 all the way. Looked at a few alternatives like DSTT but they have issues. Can't fault R4's.

Ever heard of homebrew? Also, R4's allow you play music and vids on your DS among loads of other things. DS Organise is another handy app.

I dont get it? but i am kinda stoopid!

    is it a gucci handbag?

4 good reasons to own one of these cards

As far as i know M3 and R4 are the basically the same card, get which ever you can get cheapest.

The DSTT card is very good, especially for the price, its much cheaper than R4s. Check dealextreme.com to see if they have them

The M3 linked by the OP was an M3 Real, which supports SDHC cards (microSD cards more than 2gb in size). R4s just support cards up to 2gb.

How do you know? Can you magically see what's on my micro sd cards?

I use quite a lot of homebrew apps. You need to look into the scene a bit more before making sweeping statements like that.

ive been following the scene before you. Cause i remember you posted about buying it, it all boils down to people using it for piracy more than any sort of homebrew, there is no way you bought this even 40% out of a 100 for homebrew, besides none are even as good , specially on the ds. PSP maybe [if even]

    face it.

You seem very quick to criticise for someone who owns one of these cards?

I already listed a link to my site that has a short review on 4 homebrew games that are a bit more than tetris.

The fact that you summed up DS homebrew as "home made tetris on your ds" shows how little you actually know about it.

I had someone using the homebrew app colors for about 4 hours last night. Hes a final year animation student and couldnt believe the quality and finish of the product. So much so that he offered me to trade a psp for it.

Emulators are homebrew products. Many of which may be designed for running illegal roms, but theyre still homebrew. Of very good quality. Nes runs perfectly, snes is getting there, megadrive runs perfect without sound, GBA, GBC, GB perfect.

People use it for piracy. People use it for homebrew. What you're doing is saying everyone uses it for piracy and nobody uses it for homebrew.

    Which is untrue.

what im trying to say is that people do not buy these things to run average home brew applications. They get them for the games and homebrew is a bonus, i just find it hard to believe people would purchase these solely to run average applications.

I'm aware of app colors, but im sure you know urself the ds touch screen is not pixel perfect accurate so to me that app is just a gimmick.
Its like someone making use of ascii art.

witnessmenow: yes i do have one and my psp is also custom firmwared, so comming from the same background im just giving my 2 cents.

    back on topic. :)

Colors has a zoom option. Which allows you to get very fine levels of detail down to pixels. Sure, it's not a Wacom, but it still a perfect tool for drawing on the go. I'm a fine art student myself and would happily pay money for it. (If I had any)

But anyway yeah, back on topic indeed. ;)

What do ye think of the CycloDS?

Is there a major difference? I've used cyclo but not r4/m3

Well, i ordered an M3 DS Real last Sunday from Gameyeaahh and it arrived on Friday. 5 days delivery, not too shabby. I got a 4gig card with it and it works great. They're both essentially the same card in that they do the same thing the same way as far as i know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,214 ✭✭✭samo

www.supercardnds.com have R4's in stock at the moment but a good bit more expensive than Gameyeeeah. (worked out at about 42 euro as opposed to 30 euro with Gameyeeeah) I ordered it yesterday morning and got a shipping notice later that day.

I ordered itfor a friend so went for the R4 seeing as I've the task of setting it up and I was a bit wary about the M3 Real having read a few not so good reviews ...but might chance one for myself if gameyeeeah dont get the R4 back again.

just got a m3 simply from consoleup, guy in class bought loads for people, showed me one there, im well impressed :)

cost me 67 euro though ,seemingly they have bumped up the price but i did pay 10 euro for tracking shipping

still for what im gna get its well worthwhile ivnestment

o and my mate swears by them, and he showed me how they work ,simple

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,364 ✭✭✭witnessmenow

for that kinda money i'd probably have goten the CycloneDS (or whatever its called) probably the best card out there. Supports real time saves and loads , bring out updates regularly, they take sugestions for said updates and there built quality is meant to be good too

    EDIT:

cycloDS is what i should have said - link here

67 euro, thats steep! I got my R4 for about 30 and a 2gb card for 10. And as witnessmenow says, the DSTT is just as good, especially for the money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,141 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

it was the only site icould find. and r4 where sold out everywhere , its a worthwhile investment and id money lieing round from pokr so im not that fussed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,364 ✭✭✭witnessmenow

I know i recomended them but i'd avoid getting DSTT of DX . There great cards, but i ordered a few early jan and i'm still waiting for them to be sent.... god knows what chance someone ordering them now has!

you'll be happy with it regardless of the price

hey, just got a ds myself and am seriously considering one of these options.

one question, can you save your game like on the original game carts?

Also, would ebay be a viable option to buy one of these or is that a little bit dodgy?

Yes you can save the game like on the original cartridges.

ebay is only as dodgy as the seller you buy off.
