Catholic Wedding not in church

    I've just got engaged and we'd love to have our wedding somewhere other than a church. I was just wondering if it is possible to have a catholic wedding with a priest etc. not in a church, but in gardens or castle or something like that.:confused:

    Hey Nobbers,

    congratulations on the engagement!!

    Since November you can get married outside of a church or a registry office (for instance, we're going to get married in a hotel) by a registar.

    The place of marriage has to be a proper building though and cannot be in a garden/beach etc...

    If you can find a nice castle that is open to the public, you should have a good chance. (The building needs to be approved by the HSE)

    So the question was can you have a Catholic marriage with a priest outside a church and I think the answer will be no. Best thing to do is ask your priest - I don't think you'll get anything definitive here.

    Take a look here and you'll see what a minefield this is.
