Well heres one to throw theories on their heads, i got a pack through today to say im getting a start on the march intake, for anyone out there who thinks they are maybe too far down the merit pool then think again, i was num 770 in the pool!!
And i havent had a phone call yet about it, thats not to say that they havent called while ive been out and about.

MartinC, think that should give your partner some hope as she is in a better placing in the pool.

    :):):):).

    Ethan!

Excellent news, I’m chuffed for you and I bet that was a bit of a surprise when you seen it? Did you think it was a Dear John lol?
After I read your post I half hoped my Partner would have a letting waiting for her at home. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case but it’ll cheer her up none the less. She’s been a little down about the whole thing so that’ll give her some hope!

The thread you’re looking for is in the main forum called “Starting in Garnerville” or the like.

    Congrats again.

    Martin.

    Hi folks

Have been flicking through some of the postings so apologies if i ask a question which has previously been answered -firstly have been gave so many versions of how your place in the merit pool is created that i dont know what to believe, would be much appreciated if somone could clarify this please?

I'm currently mid to late 300's in merit pool, have passed medical and vetting, non-RC background just waiting AC feedback.. Anybody think i'm still in with a shout or wait for next campaign.

Congrats to those with start date and best of luck to everybody else waiting for that phone call

    Cheers

    Sony8391,

Your merit pool placing is based mainly or wholly on your Assessment centre score. I read somewhere that the initial selection test counts for a tiny percentage (2-3%) if I recall but that may be wrong.

They are taking 440 people in this campaign so you are most defiantly in with a shot. Have you had confirmation that you passed the vetting? did recruitment tell you over the phone?

The only way you'd not get in at this point would be through the 50:50 rules. For that to happen 220 people out of the 350ish in front of you would have to be from a non RC backround. Is this the case? anyone's guess, but those are not bad odds by anyones standards!

    Good luck.

    Martin.

    Hi Martin

Thanks for taking time to reply, regarding 50/50 your right thats anybody's guess. Havn't had written confirmation regarding vetting, only verbal via telephone conversation with recruitment whislt receiving my merit number.

    Cheers

    Hi there,

Have just found this site, wish i'd found it months ago! Congrats to everyone who's already made it in / this far.

Apologies if this has already been asked/answered before..... Just received medical date now panicking that won't get through! Spinal fracture 14 years ago. Apart from initial treatment (painkillers/rest/swim) i have never had any back trouble or any absences from work due to it. (Work in an job where i've travelled 75 miles each way to spend long periods sitting which did not cause any problems.) Is this likely to result in a fail? What additional information will i need to confirm that it's not a problem?

    Thanks

    Hi ash7,

Have a look at this, it may give you some ideas..

    http://www.policecouldyou.co.uk/officers/Medical_59-2004.pdf

During the medical you have to touch your toes, stand on one foot with eyes closed and arm outstretched etc etc..

Make sure you can 'flex' about without any problems.

With additional info make sure you have all reports from your GP regarding the injury to your back stating that it is now okay and no further damage has been done.

It is probably advisable at this point to go to an orthopedic consultant to get a full current assessment of your back + a description of exactly what the injury entailed and what your outlook for the future is (this is how they decide if you are suitable for the pension scheme).

Without this info you will be asked on the day to go and get the relevent reports, which will simply cause you further delay (this has happened to me..I am getting a consultants report next week relating to a very minor knee operation I had 5 years ago).

If you have put anything on the MHQ relating to previous conditions/treatment make sure you back it up!!!!! :)

    Martin.

    thanks martin.

think it worth saying to anyone who gets a failure letter.

if theres any chance something could have been wrong, appeal it. the psni received my appeal letter on monday. they rang on tuesday to ask me to be remeasured on thursday and i got the call telling me i was in 16th march intake on friday. 5 days to totally turn things around.
    anyway,
good luck to anyone currently in the process.

two quick questions to the guys that have already been selected for entry

    1) what age are you roughly
2)who is in the march intake

reason i ask is im only 21 so think im gonna be quite young compared to others

Mate would not worry, I am 21 and the youngest in my squad is 19. Most of the students are early to late 20's at the minute with plenty of over 30's as well.

Good luck with training should have my week 10 exams around that time.

Good to hear it's going well. I hear a certain CI is retiring in there today. His replacement is the nephew of a certain CS upstairs so watch out!

    Thanks Mickey,

I do quite a bit of yoga so the bending and balancing stuff should be no problem, it's just that on paper my back doesn't read too good! Will probably go the consultant route too.
    Good luck.

Ash, coming from someone who has had a prolapsed disc about 15 years ago i still got through. Like yourself i done some yoga stretchs on the run up to the medical and i also had put in results from road races i had ran last year plus a letter from GP on my back flexibility. If you have had nothing from your GP on your back for a few years then there shouldnt be a problem:D

    Hi Everyone,

Just want to congratulate everyone so far in making through to the March 16th start. Got my information pack on Thursday with all the details etc. Not sure if anyone has read 'Psni's starters guide' to Garnerville, its very detailed and gives lots of great info regarding required stuff to bring. I have been searching the town today for much of whats required eg. Selvyt bulling cloth , however if you live outside a big town/city , some of the requirements may be difficult to source. I have managed to order a few things tonight on line, so my query is this - does anyone think it would be a good idea to post some links on where we can find the basic requirements. If you wish , I could start the postings ?
