I thought it was such a surprise of a show, great to see RTE doing something decent comedy-wise. I suppose it's easy to fault RTE comedy for covering Irish stereotypes but you could say the same about British comedy with British stereotypes. I thought this was a bit more polished than usual from RTE

So are we liking tonights episode?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,008 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Well that was worse than last week's and last's week's was pretty bad.

Will give the last one a skip.

Myself and my housemate have just sat through "that". Not so much as a muscle movement teetering towards a smile. It's the worst output I've ever seen from RTE - and they've had some melons.

I would also like to second what DT Jesus et al have been saying about the suspicious newbie posters in this forum supposedly 'discussing' the pros and cons of the show before and since DT Jesus's query on it. Very doubtful indeed if a) they are genuine and b) they are not involved with the production of the show somehow.

Not nearly as good as last weeks, funny but had a cringe factor to it this week, especially the bit when she was drunk in the art gallery ..far too much flesh for me , but i laughed occassionaly, so not a total waste of time. Will watch next week.
Maybe i looked forward to it a bit too much.:(

Big disappointment compared to last week. Had a few laughs at the start with some great one liners. However the show seemed to die before part one was even over. Worst of all the spontaneous scenes with the public had been replaced with very obviously scripted scenes that just didn't work.

Agree with others, very disappointing compared to last weeks.

Extremely disappointing second epsidode. As someone else said it was cringe-worthy. Only attempts at humour were misfiring puns. Steve Coogan did this much better in Pauline Calf's Three Fights, Two Weddings and a Funeral, nearly 15 years ago.

Loved last week - hated this week's - seemed to go on forever and a lot more staged than last week

Very disappointed this weeks episode I thought was very poor .........some good lines mixed with real cringe worthy moments.
I guess even thought it was bad it will stick in the memory because it was so cringe worth.

Yeah disappointing this week. I thought she was going to keep the traveler character going, that was a fairly unique character. The Dub character's been done to death by everyone and just isn't that funny.

Maybe she's just going to an episode on each of her characters and if one's popular come back with a series about that one.

i only caught this, this week.....

    and wtf???

    i hope it gets better....

I really enjoyed it! Episode one was stronger but there was still lots to enjoy. I love how she just BECAME the character, she was unrecognisable. I did think that it was a pity that they staged more of it, I think the going up to regular people thing is funnier.

Could only stick five minutes of the second episode. Not a patch on the first one.

I didn't hate it as much as the Roaring Twenties.

It still wasn't what I'd call good though.

I don't normally like Irish TV comedy (I can't abide that Jake guy and his whistling and Killinaskully leaves me cold) but this series has me in stitches. Particularly the art gallery bit in last night's episode. I'd like to see more from her.

The female Pat Shortt with that knacker nonsense. Christ people would watch any ****e on RTE and think its good.

Would totally agree with this. The whole art gallery stuff was just boring and unfunny. It reminded me of the sketches Twink would do on the late late in the 80's except with a bit more swearing. The only thing that saves the show is that very occasionally she will come up with a funny line in her voiceover but really there's very little to seperate last night's show from something Brendan O'Carroll would do, which is as damning as I can get.

I loved last weeks episode, wasnt impressed with part one of last nites but part 2 was hilarious, loved when she mooned your man in the gallery and outside on Henry St.

This is very "old" humour - Brendan O'Carroll (Mrs Brown)

As someone said Twink was doing stuff like this 20 years ago and in those more innocent days when people didn't have an arse in their trousers they might have actually had a laugh at it.

I am 1 of those 'possible suspicious newbie posters' as you put it that ye think might be affiliated with the show but I can assure you i am not I am just a genuine newbie who posted last week after the show. This week I feel I have to totally redeem myself by saying WTF was that last night. Thats a half hour of my life gone that I can never get back. Cringe cringe

Just watched her on The late late. She was very entertaining and the 3rd charachter in the series looks promising.

2 out of three won't be too bad for the first series. I wonder what the ratings for the series were?

    i loved it!!!

can someone please put up her appearance on the late late on youtube? I am dying to see it!

:DIt seems to me I have stumbled upon the land of no sense of humour! - Singin' Bernie Walsh is a credit to our society...Can't one little pavie make it in the big bad world...please: Remove green clovers from ass! Ray D'arcy rocks..

Thank god at least some people found it funny...But yea I agree..the first week was hilarious, especially if like me, you get a laugh out of the travellers! With their hoopy earrins and their gorgeous hiace vans. I wish it was all about Bernie Walsh...I love being easily amused!
