anyone got one of these and how does it compare to R4?
    thanks
    john

    Yeah mine arrived this week.

I have not used/seen the R4 so I don't know how it compares. Took a good while to deliver, but seems to work well.

Right lads, help me out here, which of these should i order? I need two, one for each of my kids. Would it be cheaper if i got it sent to a mate of mine in the US and my sister who's going over to him in a few weeks can pick it up?

What size do i need, what is the average game size in mb?

Murtinho - Cheapest option would be to go for a 1gb N-Card from DealExtreme.com... They have free shipping to ireland, but it takes 1.5-2 weeks to get here. €20 ish delivered.

Average size of games...... well that depends... The games come in either 128mb, 64mb, 32mb, 16mb, or 8mb (I'm sure 4mb aswell, but I've only seen one like that).

Something like Zelda or Elite Beat Agents is 128mb (lots of graphics, movies, music)
Something like Brain Training, Sudoku, Tetris is 16mb (low graphics)

1gb card should do most people...

Thanks for that, i'd prefer a bigger care as im fairly nifty with the downloading, what's the difference between the r4ds, N-card etc. Im mainly worried about ordering the worng thing!

get a DSTT from gameyeah (link is above somewhere), they have support for micro sdhc cards while the r4ds dont. You can get 4gb micro sdhc cards off dvd.co.uk for about 25 euro delivered (ebay doesnt even have them that cheap). Dealextreme seem to be out of stock for nearly every sort of card and you'd be luckly to have anything by the end of February if you were lucky.

So i can buy one of these:

    http://www.gameyeeeah.com/dstt-ndstt-with-rumble-pack-p-735.html

    from gameyeeeah

and then a couple of sdhc cards from dvd.co.uk?

yep, thats what I got for a workmate and they said it works fine. i didnt get the rumble pack version though, just the cheaper one without rumble pack.

I dont know if 8gb micro sdhc work or not (there on ebay for 55 euro delivered). Anyways make sure its micro sdhc you get, not mini sdhc or the normal sdhc card.

    Lads

I have only just been made aware of this cartridge thingy for the DS and would definitely be interested in buying one.

A guy in work has a 2GB "R4 Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS) Cartridge.

Are these the best on the market?

If so, then where is the cheapest place to get one of these or perhaps one with a higher storage capacity?

Furthermore, where do I go to download games?

    cheers!

Hey PGL, you might want to edit your post above as talk of illegal activities here on boards is not taken lightly. I bought about 5 R4's back in Nov from dealextreme.com but they don't sell them anymore. Just reading a few posts above and it looks like you can still get them from gameyeeah. Got the 2GB packs. I don't know much about the other offerings but you should probably read through the entire thread and google the different cards.

There are lots to choose from, some need micro SD cards, some have onboard memory. The R4 is basic but is hard to come by. The DSTT does the same job, is half the price and supports micro SDHC cards which has higher capacity (up to 8GB). This thread is full of links to where to find them.

As for downloading games, thats illegal and cannot be discussed here. Google will help you to find more information on homebrew games and other applications

    Hi Folks,

Ordered an R4 DS from Gameyeaaah on 18th January, was delivered to my office yesterday so no snags there.

In terms of the product itself, it's great so far....have tried a few games and they're all working fine....looking forward to sticking some Music and Videos onto it. The whole thing including Post and Packing cost €36 in the end but that was with a 1Gb Mini-sd card, slightly more than the thread title but still brilliant value.

I'd recommend rather than installing the software that comes on the included CD to instead go to the official R4 DS site at www.r4ds.com (make sure to click on the 'English' in the top right corner when you get there!) and download the latest version for free if you can.

Hope that helps somebody in making a decision or getting up and running!!

    R.

    P.S. The one I got was: http://www.gameyeeeah.com/r4-ds-r4ds-sandisk-tf-1gb-memory-card-p-249.html

    cheers ROSY

I ordered a 2GB version from the same website for €55 incl standard 8-16 business day postage. You got yours pretty quickly so hopefully i will too!

Hi! Since it was this thread that got me looking for an R4 I decided to post how I got on.

I found the R4 itself here on Sunday:
    http://eu.mod-chip.com/index-cart.php?go=r4_english.php

It said it was out of stock and would have more in on the 21st. I checked back on the 21st and they had full stock so I ordered Monday night.

I then wanted a cheap microSD card quickly so would be here in time for the R4
    http://www.dvd.co.uk/Hw/SanDisk-2GB-MicroSD-with-3-in-1-Adapter/SDSDQ-2048-E11MK/product.htm

Both were posted Tuesday. Got sd card yesterday(Thursday) and R4 today(Friday). Personally I wasn't expecting that quick.

How much was the postage on the 2gb card. Am after some of these.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,525 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Postage was £2.99. Maybe expensive, but if want it quick better going with it than trying to get a cheap card off ebay.

On a side note, thanks for all comments previously posted that helped when I was looking.

Yeah thanks, I ordered 2 2gb mirco sd cards from them first thing this morning. Got a mail back shortly afterwards saying my order has been shipped. In total my CC was charged €29.00 for the two, pretty good considering memoryc would have cost me €46.75 for the very same 2.

    Thanks again

Which method of shipping did you pay for. I think that they sometimes prioritise DHL and TNT orders.

I had a bit of hassle with them too with delivery, they sent me a link for DHL http://remoteareas.dhl.com/jsp/first_main.jsp and to my surprise Limerick City is a remote location , thats what caused the delay.

I asked them to switch to TNT and they delivered in 3 days :D fair play to the buy from TNT he called out to the college to drop it off for me.

About them not replying in emails did you make sure to add your order number?

I got replies from orders@gameyeeeah.com "Katrina" and sales@gameyeeeah.com "Vincent", had to wait a day cos of the timezones.

Hope you get it soon its a quality piece of gear ;)

Seems like they can't get them

The Reason You Cannot Buy R4 Now and Solution

We are now decide to hold all R4 sales all together due to the all in a sudden supply shortage.

This shortage came quite suddenly because we receives 1 to 2 shipments from the R4 team each week and it was only after 2 missed shipments that we were officially told it's in shortage (after inquiries).

We have to hold from taking new orders so that existing orders can be fulfilled in the quickest manner. The R4 team is making steady supplies but the quantity still fluctuates, therefore we cannot give a definitive date as to shipment. If you need it by Christmas or not, if you may either choose to wait, or to request for a full refund by sending us an email at http://www.volumerate.com/accounts/cancelorder.vr . Please allow us 3 business days for the refund due to the large amount of requests for the cancellation.

To track your current order status for R4, please go to http://www.liveshipment.com/customers/ with your order number. (The order number which is started with letter "Q")

Why not try the M3 they seem to be pretty much the same.

www.divineo.com have them in stock but expensive delivery. worth it if your gonna get a few of them

Gameyeeeah, always seemed to have them in stock when all others could not get any.

Is there as much support for these, I know the the r4 crowd are very quick to bring out software updates as and when required.

To be honest m8 never used them but have heard good things off other people.

Just from doing abit of research using google, they seem to be exactly the same except the software updates seem to come out a bit quicker for the R4's
