Doesn't appear to be a current question, so may i be so bold as to askone?

Where does the term "boot" come from in terms of computing (i.e to re-boot etc)?

Edit: Never mind, i was looking at the wrong page.

there is a current question about humans and hamsters ... but the answer to your question is the phrase "pull yourself up by your own boot-straps" which was an american term for improving your lot in life, by dint of effort and hard work.

The boot process used to be called boot-strap process, back in the day.

    Now ... humans/hamsters ... who knows ?

I think we're trying to be honest and NOT do that. It's no fun if you do. At least have a guess first.
