isny that mosney place empty these days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

For insurance reasons that won't happen. Public liability for something like that would be hard enough in a fully sanctioned and certified building. Getting even a one off permit to skirmish in a building that's due to be torn down would be next nigh on impossible. There's usually a good reason those buildings are being torn down and it ain't because they're structurally sound.

Mosneys not empty, they're using it as refugee housing. Strangely, the actual park itself and all the rides are still open for business during the summer.

we could always rent an empty warehose for a day and use it for CQB and practical pistol

When I was still living in Limerick there was a pretty big Smyths toy store in the center of town, across from the Garda station. About a year ago it closed down and went available for leasing. Everytime I walked past it I kept thinking how awesome it would be to turn into an indoor site. It was more than big enough and you could even put in a second floor if you wanted. It had a mezzanine floor with offices that I was gonna use as a shop/prep area and I was going to put walkways all over the top of it so you could walk around and look down on the action unfolding.
The idea of a spectator being able to see, for example a guy defending a position and two guys sneaking up behind him without him knowing, really appealed. It'd make a nice twist on it and I'm sure it would have enticed more people to play too.

The place is still up for lease...

It would be really good to have an indoor CQB site in the Dublin area..........................................................................................................................................waits for some messianic person to post the opening of Dublins latest CQB indoor etc etc etc

    Still waiting :(

If I had the money I'd quit my job in the morning and set that place up. I know for a fact it would work and do very well. Between the two main Garda barracks and the Army barracks I reckon you'd do serious business on those alone. Not to mention the fact that there's nowhere else in town to go for a bit of craic if you don't want to drink or shop. It's all about startup capital though.

jesus with rent at the premium that its is the only place you could get would be way outside the city, so you would need transport to get there, which kinda takes away your market share a wee bit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

the smyths stores are ideal for cqb, worked in them all some have great layouts for skirmishing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭tonyj_mc

sorry you meant the limerick site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

definitely would love to see an interesting cqb site, perhaps an old disused industrial facility of somekind, the problem is finding one and getting your hands on it

The problem is paying for it. Industrial sites are premium prices because they're already zoned as industrial. Which means knocking a warehouse or the shell of a factory to build a mahoosive new factory/warehouse on it is a lot cheaper than buying a field and starting from scratch, the first thing being to seek industrial zoning.

basicly its all down to money

industrial facilitys are to costly i looked in to it a long time a go, you need two insurance's one for Public liability and then fire and damge, this has to be two time the price of facility, and then add your lease price by the number years, say 3 to 15 now add up the cost it would be a dear game of airsoft

As are so many things in life.

what about renting a sports hall for pratical pistol,or cqb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

They'd be unlikely to give it to you. Many sports halls have to give a list of the sports to be played there to their insurance companies so they know what risks are involved. They usually stick rigidly to this list.

how about we all covertly enter croke park stadium in the middle of the night by crossing the canal, sniping the fence and sneaking into the stands in the cover of darkness., then we wait for the go ahead and everyone run a mock and have the biggest airsoft skirmish ever., :D
ok that might be "slightly illegal" but hey., :D

    I don't think Rule 42 covers airsofting!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Masada

nope, and with all the gun shots that are usually around here nobody will even take notice.,:D
