Do these really work in Ireland? FM traffic control signals sound very important. But if they are not functional in Ireland, why spend the extra bucks?

No service in Ireland for traffic info via RDS. Therefore it's an unnecessary feature - unless you travel a lot to UK or other countries where this service is provided. See totmtom site here - http://www.tomtom.com/plus/service.php?ID=3&Lid=4

this talks about the TMC service which is available via mobile phone/bluetoototh connection or national services available via FM radio RDS.
