Hi, I am heading to New York after christmas for a break. Would anyone recommend me buying an engagement ring over there? Any thoughts, thanks

Personally I've never bought one. But if you want real value buy one at an auction here. They are generally not new (although it’ll be different in each case) and that doesn't suit everyone but they will be way cheaper than buying new. Once they’re polished up no one would be any the wiser. These guys auction them http://www.johnweldonauctioneers.com. I know someone who just bought two platinum wedding bands there this week, and they are very happy with their purchase.

I got the two platinum bands at the auction for €350 for both of them, I walked around town last night and I was quoted €1,400 for just the gents.
I also got my amazing engagement ring at that auctioneers. It’s totally different from the ones i see in the shops and I saved hundreds.

I would highly recommend buying in New York. I have just done it and the value compared to here is amazing. My Fiance is over the moon with what I got her. If you would like to know how I went about it feel free to PM me.
