Wedding BBQ?

Has anyone ever been to a bbq reception for a wedding? Just looking for some new ideas and don't want a sit-down meal

Not yet but going to one next year.

Also went to a wedding a few years back where the couple organised sausage & mash which was different (they were teachers)

Yes, my sister had one for her wedding. She had a cold seafood buffet for starters where everyone helped themselves.
Then a few huge barbeques were set up to cook the main course. A platter in the middle of each table consisted of steaks, chicken, burgers, spare ribs and all the usual salads.
It was very sucessful. Much more relaxing than the usual hotel type meal.

BIL had a BBQ for his wedding reception, now after more than 10 years later it's still talked about as being one of the best receptions the family has ever been to as it was so relaxed and different. Go for it I say!

Thanks for all that. Really like the idea of it being relaxed. Tables can be set up in the reception room should the weather turn nasty and the BBQ can be done from the hotel kitchen!! (so we've been told!)
