Teaching in London

    Hey guys.

I'm doing the PGDE in UCD this year. My subjects are English and CSPE. I have an MA in English and I have teaching experience in these subjects and a couple of others. Anyway, I'm interested in going to London to teach next year as there seems to be a lot of opportunities over there and I just basically want to get out of Dublin for a while. But people who I've spoken to including my tutor in college have all given me a really bad impression of the system over there and of the schools - my tutor in particular made it seem like hell on earth she was so negative. Now I know that there are some bad schools there - but there are good ones too right? And is teacher morale as low as I've been led to believe?

I'd love to hear from someone who has taught there or is at the moment. I still want to go but now I feel really nervous about it.

    Thanks

I'm teaching in Scotland, but know a few people teaching in England.

England supposedly has worse conditions than Scotland - lower pay, more discipline issues and larger classes. One teacher I know is teaching a first year group of 43!
I think morale is dreadful in Scotland and pupil behaviour is utterly appalling, so I really would be careful about where I went in England if it's worse there.

There are some very good academies in London, which have an academic focus. Admin and paperwork is always an issue in UK schools.
They are very short of teachers so I'd doubt you would have any issues finding work.
