Assassins Creed Thread

So has anyone got it yet? I dont know if i should get it this weekend because im still playing a lot of Call Of Duty and some of the reviews weren't great.

its only getting slated because there was so much hype around it

the basics of the reviews iv seen / been told about say

the detail is amazing

the control system is amazing

the story is great but they deal with it badly

it might get boring near the end

i think people were expecting way to much and instead of a ground breaking game they got an excellent game and therefore they are slating it but ill reserve complete judgement till i get it tonight

my friend is getting it later so he's going to tell me if its worth getting and if it is i'll get it tomorrow

do you think there will be some left in dublin or would they be sold out ?

I mentioned this in the Assassin's Creed thread in the Xbox forum, but I'll mention it here too. Gabe of Penny Arcade has posted what in my few is a very good and sensible reply to the odd couple of reviews that scored the game low and accused it of being repetitive. He makes some good points. I've got the game, and loving it so far.

Yea would have to agree with you there, very good review indeed.

Im going to get it in smyths tonight, rather judge it for myself than through reviewers who have been expecting a game which has absolutely no cons

I'd have it right now but I can't seem to find it. In a crappy small town so my only options are Tesco or Golden Discs. Neither has it! Strangely, Tescos have it at number 1 in their PS3 charts but there's not a copy in sight. Was there at lunch time so it could hardly be sold out yet.

arghhhh i really want to rent this before i buy it but cant find it in any xtra visions today. maybe they just havent put it out to rent yet

Just because they have the chart doesn't mean they have all the games for it. The tesco I work in doesn't even have smackdown on the ps2 in yet and it's been number 1 for a week.

Not really especially if it just came out today. I rarely purchase games in bricks and mortar so I never even see the charts they have in store.

Not even slightly. I used to work in Xtravision, so I know the score with those things

They're less "by release date" than "by the order we wish them to sell".

More than likely it's due to go out today but the guy who opened up this morning found that the manager didn't bother unpack the rental copies last night.

I'm sure it'll be out on the shelves tonight.

I'm really in two minds whether to get the game or not. It sounds like it's a pretty expansive game, one review saying that if you rush through it, it hsould take you 20 hours, so it should keep me busy until Rock Band, but COD4 is keeping me occupied enough at the moment.

I'm sure my impulses will get the better of me when I pop down to Xtra-vision in a minute and find there's no dvd worth renting. Damn me and my complete and utter lack of willpower.

success!!! scored the last copy in store (rental) but cant play tonight due to female interference

, but got it for 3 nights so hopefully will et good idea of it

i've got too much to play. gears of war PC, crysis, ratchet & clank and super mario galaxy. if all these stories get jumbled up in my head we could be in for some interesting times

Great game best i've played in a while Pro Ev and SD vs Raw 08 were major let downs but this is great fun, for now anyway

tell me this, how do u guys go about killing 4 guards harrassing someone? I L1 target the guy in front folding his arms and 2 seconds later the guards are onto me before i move. How do you go about wiping the 4 out as quick as possible?

It's alot easier to take on 2 or more when you have the counter moves my record is 8 on 1

You can't stealth kill them all. It's a straight up fight. You lock on, and a few seconds later you've got the 4 or more guys on you. My advise is to have the hidden blades selected first. The instant you lock on, walk up to your target before he moves and you can assassinate him with the hidden blades for an insta-kill. Then whip out the short blade for the rest of the guys (I find the short blade really is much more effective against a group than your sword).

I've played the game for about 9 hours now and have killed the first three targets. My impressions so far are that its great, and I'm more of the Gamespot view than the Eurogamer.

I really enjoy the intelligence gathering missions, and so far you've only need to complete 2 out of 6 to activate the actual assassination mission, but I've gone and done all of them in each instance.

Some things however that are slightly annoying:

I enjoy the "save the citizen" fights, but there is not enough variety in what the saved citizens say afterwards. Too much recycling of voice bits.
The assassin's bureau in each city is identical. I mean, the exact same layout, just with a different NPC. It feels a bit cheap and lazy considering the amazing detail in the rest of the cities. How hard could it have been to come up with a different floorplan?
The "Kingdom" bit between the cities is a bit pointless. There's nothing to do except get from A to B and the soldiers attack you far too readily.

All of these things are slight annoyances though, I still think its a fantastic game.
