Today is my 14th day on champix and therefore my stop day. Before I went to bed last night I enjoyed my last Gitane, and placed ashtrays and lighter in the bin, so I would have no visual cues.

I have been up since 8.30 and haven't smoked so a little over four hours is a very short time but I would usually have had at least 6-8 by now. No signs of physical withdrawal, thought plenty of psychological games going on. As Chairman Mao said "a march of a thousand miles begins with the first step" so hopefully I can keep on marching.

Ps this post was my distraction for dealing with a craving;)

Best of luck. Make sure you've cold water around to drink if a craving hits, and remember that the cravings WILL go away after a few minutes.

I thought the whole point of Champix was that there were no cravings or at least massively reduced cravings. ie I was under the impression that champix basically meant there would be no psychological games.

I'm a psychotherapist and there are defo mind games, a psychiatrist I work with who used them experienced the same. My understanding is that they take care of the physical but you still have to deal with the psych side. I found I was a tad anrgy at certain times yesterday;) Concentration was quite poor at times. However, this is nothing compared to the symptoms I would normally get. This is the longest I have been nicotine free for over 20 years so yes cravings for me are massively reduced but its still going to take a significant amount of work on my behave. Cheers

    And Lo, the weekend beckons.
How are you finding socializing in respect of staying away from the smokes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,752 ✭✭✭Odysseus

Ok so far I won't be going out much over the weekend but I have had a few drinks and not smoked. Its in work I have to be careful, my work place can be a difficult environment at times, one of the ways we look after each other is socialising during smoke breaks. So I have kept a balance on it, going out if I felt ok staying in if not. When I wake up in the mornining it wil be a full week:)
