    +1 Donnie Darko

Don't love the film but so long as it keeps Star Wars assuredly off the list, even for a week, it gets my vote.

My vote goes to "Walk the Line" - a great dramatisation of the true story of Johnny Cash.

It's partly a love story of course with the June Carter love interest. Loads of music in the film naturally, faithfully recreated by the lead actors Joachim Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon. The latter deserved the Oscar she won for the role of June Carter.

I have seen it twice so far and I would definitely relish taking it out again.

    Let's hear it for:
    Walk The Line.

    It's gotta be Donnie Darko

It ran so close last week!

This week, my vote is going to go for My Neighbor Totoro. It's a far superior film to Donnie Darko.

I know I going out on a limb here Karl, but are you a fan of Japanese Movies?

I'm beginning to see quite a trend in the voting for certain movies.. which is why I'm going to go out on a wild limb and nominate Lagaan

I will go for Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas

Johnny Depp really did the part brilliantly and it is so loyal to the book. fantastic film

Right, some observations on the films that have won Film of the Week to date:

22% of the films are foreign language. That is higher than I would have expected, and very welcome.

Just 19.5% are from pre 1980. This is lower than I would have expected, and I would like to see more old ones get in there. However, three of the last four winners were pre-1980, so I don’t think this is the time to get behind another old one.
Only one film was both pre-1980 and in a foreign language (the Seven Samurai).
Only one animated film has been Film of the Week to date. This was also one of the foreign language films (Grave of the Fireflies).
The winners these days seem to be safe-bets. This is coupled with people getting behind movies until they win. I personally prefer to see things get mixed up a little, with winners coming from left-field (Tremors, Princess Bride, for examples).

With that in mind, I’m going to nominate something completely different and totally worthy of victory:

    Rocky 3.

Not the Oscar winning first one. Nor the big money making and highly memorable fourth one. Not even the new one, that was much better than anyone could have thought possible. I’m going with the third one.

This was the one where Rocky lost! He actually lost, and conclusively too! It then has the story come full circle, with the villain from the previous two become Rocky’s ally, and training him to defeat the common foe in Clubber Lang. It has the greatest ending too, with just Apollo and Rocky alone together in an empty gym, going at it one last time, as friends. Perfect.

Lads, I’m going out on a limb here. Anyone prepared to support someone who is prepared to back the underdog?
