I once saw a documentary about a chimp named oliver who was dubbed a "humanzie". Basically he walked on 2 legs an enjoyed watching television etc, was hated by other chimps and pretty much behaved like a human(with the exception of not talking of course). His owners seemed pretty convinced he was human.
They tested his DNA on the show and proved he wasnt a halfbreed slight against god but he did have some oddities to his dna.

In short no I dont think its ever been done but then they didnt rule out the possibility on the show(and I'm no expert on the subject).

God help the poor creature if it were to happen. Then again who's to say it hasnt, I know a few types of folk I'd be suspicious of(think burberry)

dont think it can be done. afair you have to be in the same species to make fertile offspring (dog on dog) and the same genus to make nonfertile but living offspring (horse and ass).

we defo arent the same species, and not the same genus either (homo vs pan)

This thread made me think that..

if you cross different breeds of dogs or cats you get a cross between them...

...so do wild animals ever cross, even if they're of the same species?

Say for example if a pigeon were to cross with a magpie, or lions with tigers, etc. Is it possible, or is it mainly because they don't get on together in the wild??

Ligers are bred for their skills in magic.

wild animals of the same species would have to crossbreed, otherwise there would be no more of that species.

cats and dogs are of differnty genuses so they cant interbreed.

d'oh! sorry i meant wild animals of a different species but related in some way (like a donkey x horse, both equidae, producing a mule offspring) if ya get what I mean.

For example, in the wild there's lots of different types of cattle that are distinct from one another, while on farms we crossbreed different breeds of cattle to select for various traits. So would different types of wild cattle living in close proximity ever cross? Is it down to behavior and/or variations in habitat that different types of the same kind of animal (different cattle, birds, wild dogs, etc.) won't mix or are the products of them mating not viable in some way, like mules being infertile?

In a nutshell, I'm just wondering how there can be such distinct groups of animal breeds in the wild, while domestic animals are bred to produce various crosses or are kept purebred by breeding programmes.

for things like dogs, pls note that different breeds != different species.

cattle are a domesticated species, they dont exactly come in the wild form.

species from the same genus can cross breed - but don't naturally because their behaviour patterns would normally prevent them meeting. There is also a greater tendency for thos crossbreeds to be sterile.

Donkey and horses can crossbreed producing mules, likewise horses and zebras. Lions and tigers can crossbreed and so can canine species

A very small percentage of donkey/horse offspring are fertile by the way. I don't know if the results are always healthy but they can fertilise/be fertilised on odd occasions.

Anyone ever heard of Marlon Harewood? Going by his performance against Tottenham last Monday, he's certainly sub-human.

There's debate over that though, a lot of folk think we should be pan. Can't remember where I read it.

Take a loot at this though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimps#Taxonomic_relationships

Most research has a goal in mind slightly more worthwhile than "let's make some grotesque human/animal hybrid and see what it looks like - you know, out of curiosity."

Although, some speculate that SIV progressed to HIV through human-monkey contact....*

    *untrue
