Sky plus problem

    In reply to a post by DJ Spider in the 'Ch 4' thread. Your Sky+ HDD probably needed a defrag, just as windows based pc's need a defrag from time to time, so do Sky+ boxes. This is what happens when you do a reset on your Sky+ box. Unfortunately it erases the HDD in the process, and there is'nt an easy way of avoiding it. As you watch and then erase a program, it leaves an empty space on the hard drive, which the Sky+ will use for the next recording if there's room, but as the empty spaces get scattered around all over the place a recording and it's index files can become seperated, when this happens the Sky+ cant play back the program. The recording is there but the system just can't find it. Hope this helps.

    So how do you defrag a HDD from a Sky+ box??

    To "defrag" your harddrive, press Services, 4, 0, 1, Select. This brings you to the Installer menu.

    Choose option 7: Sky+ Planner Rebuild. This is the "defrag" system.
    This does not delete programming.

    The bottom option (Full System Reset) is the one that basically formats your harddrive, deleting all programming.
