types of gps noob question

    Hi
    I was thinking of doing a college project involving GPS I was wondering if it would be possible to have the gps record its current coordinates and time and store them in some format that I could export to an application.

    Yes. You can do it either:
    a) Real-time: Typically you'd need a GPS receiver with a serial/COM port connection to the computer (older generation - used to get used for war-driving etc.)
    b) After the fact - Many GPS receives record breadcrumb trails or tracklogs, which can simply be uploaded to a computer when you're finished (typically in GPS XML format, CSV, or native database formats).

    lovely! thanks for that. I was thinking that I was going to get the info after the fact as I will be using that info with other stuff while I'm out and I don't want to be lugging around a pc. as long as I get a timeline of positions I should be ok.
