A recent study reports that, no matter what a lad says, he is really interested in dating and mating a girl with good looks. Link. Explains why single girls use makeup, shave, and dress to kill? Comments?

The article suggests that women consider good looks in men, but also are picky about a lot more things than just looks (whereas for men, looks is the main factor, no matter what they say when asked).

All it said is that they were more "discriminating". I can live with that.

The AP (Associated Press) was the source for MSNBC, so this "study" is plastered all over the USA by now, and probably will hit the overseas press soon. Then they will be invited to talk shows like Oprah, write a book like Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus, and start a consulting practice and charge huge fees. Did you see how small the sample size was for interviews? When they start rolling in dough, they will laugh all the way to the bank!

So, what you're saying is you want to work for me, yeah? The pay is poor, the hours long, but, um, nope that's the job advert. Take it or leave it.

No, what I was thinking at the moment was the name for our new research firm. B comes before K in the alphabet, so I was going to call our outfit B!ue & Karoma (with the vast monies we earn being split down the middle).

Edit: On second thought, I like the sound of B!ue Karoma! (dropping the &).

I read that article... such utter bollocks!
Their study involved 26 men and 20 women in Munich, Germany.

Participants ranged in age from 26 to their early 40s and took part in “speed dating,” short meetings of three to seven minutes in which people chat, then move on to meet another dater.

It's speed dating for fecks sake... what were men really supposed to say after a couple of rounds of speed dating? They meet each prospective dater for a few minutes - were you supposed to adore their shining personality / sense of humour / loyality in the 5 minutes they've been chatting?!

Get a grip, researchers... do some real work!

That sounds fair and equall. I'll have none of that Commie crap. FAIL.

Well DUH! :p Especially when you consider they used a "speed dating" system. Who doesn't judge on looks first, it's the most reasonable thing to do.

Badly formatted page, I thought the story ended after the initial 3 paragraphs.

Didn't they call Commie's pinkos too? Now, I'm no Commie, but I do look good in pink! I also like P!nk's music, and she is no Commie as she banks millions from her songs and tours.

Maybe you should listen to P!nk's "Cos I Can!" to get ready to work WITH me in this new research company. Oh, to narrow down our prospectice research topics, let's think of something absolutely obvious, and get a grant to study it (just like the jokers who did the OP study)?

How is that research? They just claim men go for looks, even if a guy doesn't. What a crock! As it happens, I only go for girls who can do the lindy hop.

    Me too, examples I've encountered:
Masturbation helps prevent prostate cancer (yeah like we really expected them to come out with it being bad)
Why do some of the bubbles in guinness appear to sink instead of floating to the surface.

As to the whole thing of men being more shallow than women:
    1. Women are also drawn to wealth;)
    2. Wasn't there a thread recently with a survey showing that, surprise surprise, women lie?

Aye, but beuty is in the eye of the beholder.

I like goths, some don't, and some like the scruffy type (the type who look like a bomb with their bedroom, and they walked out the door then and there). Go figure. Humans are weird.

Holy God. So somebody paid them to take a ridiculously low sample, do some ridiculously inane testing to prove something which we already know and then they paid to publish these results?

The Americans have too much money.

The very first thing both men and woman look for in a partner is good looks, fact. Nobody looks at a horse's arse and thinks, "I wonder if they're a nice person?". Later on, it's personality that usually decides the stability of the relationship.

For men, if the woman is a spa but mad for FFM threesomes, that can add some longevity to the relationship. For women if he's an ass but has a big wallet, that too can add longevity to the relationship.

So how a woman looks is an important factor for a man.

How a man looks is an important factor for a man, as is his bank balance for a lot of women.

    Who's more shallow? :)

Of course men go for girls with good looks, the thing is, that what constitutes good looks differs from person to person. Who I think is a stunner my friend might think is butt ugly, as has happened, but if we were both asked what do we like in a girl we'd still say good looks regardless.

I once posted a thread asking why some lads go out with overweight young women who wear awful glasses and have bad hair dye or cuts and who generally cant be bothered with looking good, and promptly got flamed out of my hole.
